{"id":9956,"date":"2021-01-19T01:04:01","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T01:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=9956"},"modified":"2021-01-19T01:04:01","modified_gmt":"2021-01-19T01:04:01","slug":"work-underway-to-transform-parramatta-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/01\/19\/work-underway-to-transform-parramatta-road\/","title":{"rendered":"WORK UNDERWAY TO TRANSFORM PARRAMATTA ROAD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Work is underway on a series of projects that will breathe new life into Parramatta Road, revitalising\u00a0 the area between\u00a0Camperdown\u00a0and Auburn\u00a0as part of the\u00a0NSW Government\u2019s\u00a0$198 million improvement program.<br \/>\nMinister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said the Parramatta Road Urban Amenity Improvement Program would transform the 20 kilometre corridor with new parks, cycleways, plazas and public art.<br \/>\n\u201cParramatta Road has become a\u00a0scar through the heart of Sydney\u00a0\u2013 and we have seized the opportunity to heal it,\u201d\u00a0Mr\u00a0Stokes said.<br \/>\n\u201cThis investment of almost $200 million will\u00a0renew and revive the corridor\u00a0and draw people back into the area\u00a0with new parks,\u00a0footpaths and\u00a0cycleways\u00a0to create\u00a0green, usable and welcoming space for residents and visitors\u00a0alike.\u201d<br \/>\nProjects\u00a0as part\u00a0of\u00a0the program\u00a0include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$20 million for Inner West Council to\u00a0deliver new cycleways, shared paths, trees, benches, lighting, public art and a\u00a0new 300 square metre pocket park;<\/li>\n<li>$17.8 million\u00a0for Cumberland Council\u00a0for new footpaths, crossings,\u00a0cycleways, trees,\u00a0public art and\u00a0the upgrade of Melton Street pedestrian cycle\u00a0connection<\/li>\n<li>$2.4\u00a0million\u00a0for Burwood Council to deliver three new cycleways\u00a0including a north\/south cycle link from Burwood Park to Queen Elizabeth Park;<\/li>\n<li>$42 million for\u00a0Canada Bay Council\u00a0for\u00a0the redevelopment of Concord Oval into\u00a0a\u00a0world-class sporting, recreation and\u00a0community hub;<\/li>\n<li>A new\u00a0Public Art Framework, which\u00a0will\u00a0release funding for public art projects along Parramatta Road and allow councils to consult experts in Create NSW.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThis\u00a0investment will\u00a0improve Parramatta Road for the thousands\u00a0of people who live\u00a0or work\u00a0in the area.
