Now it wants to abolish them altogether.<br \/>\nThese workers, like all workers, deserve extra compensation for working on a public holiday.<br \/>\nBut under Mr Morrison\u2019s scheme to scrap the Better Off Overall Test a part-time level two hospitality worker aged over 21 could see their hourly New Year\u2019s Day rate slashed from $46.85 this year to $20.82 next year, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alp.us12.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=942ebc4c1cf8fc522a4f4c50e&amp;id=475cbbabec&amp;e=579c54a3a1\">the Fair Work Commission\u2019s pay calculator<\/a>.<br \/>\nSo instead of earning $375 for working\u00a0<a href=\"x-apple-data-detectors:\/\/9\">9am to 5pm<\/a>\u00a0they would earn just $166.<br \/>\nThese sorts of cuts could occur across the Australian economy. No private sector worker would be safe from Mr Morrison\u2019s pay cut.<br \/>\nThis pay cut is Scott Morrison\u2019s thanks to the workers who got us through the pandemic.<br \/>\nThe cleaners, the retail workers, the truck drivers, the childcare workers and the aged care staff \u2013 they have put themselves at risk to get Australia through this crisis. But they could all lose take-home pay under Mr Morrison\u2019s scheme.<br \/>\nIf you abolish something called the Better Off Overall Test, guess what will happen. Workers will be worse off.<br \/>\nScott Morrison\u2019s earlier penalty rate cuts for retail, fast food, pharmacy and hospitality workers failed to deliver a single extra job. But now they want us to believe that cutting more penalty rates, cutting overtime, cutting shift loading, cutting allowances will create jobs?<br \/>\nPay cuts are bad for workers and bad for the economy. For Australia to recover from the recession we need people with the money and confidence to spend.<br \/>\nThe Government says the economy is doing well enough that businesses no longer need JobKeeper. But then they say the economy is doing so badly they need to cut the pay of workers.
