\nThe\u00a0Carrington Greenspace\u00a0Masterplan examines existing land and park facilities exploring how the greenspaces can best be managed to meet recreation, sporting, community needs and environmental outcomes in both the short and long term.
\nCity of Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said the community\u2019s feedback has been integral to shaping the vision of Carrington\u2019s\u00a0green spaces.
\n\u201cWith its long and rich cultural heritage and unique industrial history linked to its role as a working port, the suburb of Carrington is one of Newcastle\u2019s most desirable city neighbourhoods.
\n\u201cThe vision for Carrington greenspaces has been\u00a0driven by the community and stakeholders and\u00a0represents the aspirations of the people to see\u00a0Carrington be the best it can be.
\n\u201cThe plan\u202fis a guiding document to\u202fshape a connected open space network, whilst building upon the unique character of Carrington.
\n\u201cTo develop the plan, we engaged with Carrington residents, collecting ideas through workshops, drop in sessions, surveys and conversations.
\n\u201cPeople told us that more canopy trees in parks and streets,\u00a0verge gardens,\u00a0more connected pathways and improved streetlighting will improve how they enjoy their neighbourhood.
\n\u201cCarrington has undergone significant economic and urban transformation yet despite these changes,\u00a0it\u00a0has retained its unique personality and its generous and distinctive open spaces.
\n\u201cWe want to ensure we provide innovative,\u00a0active\u00a0and passive\u00a0spaces for all members of the community to enjoy.
\n\u201cAn important part of the\u00a0Plan is to\u00a0also\u00a0showcase Worimi and Awabakal stories in places of importance\u00a0and\u00a0recommends\u00a0consulting further with the community to identify\u00a0a site for a\u00a0cultural meeting place for social gatherings, storytelling and education.
