safely bring the community together to celebrate the end of 2020.<br \/>\nFamily-friendly picnics in the park, pool parties,\u00a0food trucks and\u00a0food-focused\u00a0market stalls will\u00a0be\u00a0on offer\u00a0around\u00a0the\u00a0city\u00a0on 31 December and 1 January.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen with a number of the roving \/><br \/>\nNewcastle Deputy Lord Mayor\u00a0Declan Clausen\u00a0said the community\u00a0events\u00a0would provide a\u00a0vibrant alternative to the\u00a0usual\u00a0Foreshore fireworks\u00a0display and concert, which was put on hold this year due to COVID-19.<br \/>\n\u201cIn a year that\u2019s been very different from what anyone would have expected, we\u2019ve decided to do things a little differently when it comes to\u00a0our\u00a0New Year\u2019s celebrations,\u201d Cr Clausen said.<br \/>\n\u201cAfter making the\u00a0difficult decision to cancel our\u00a0traditional fireworks event\u00a0this year,\u00a0we\u2019ve been working on ways to bring the party to the people and allow Novocastrians to celebrate closer to home.<br \/>\n\u201cTo that end, we\u2019re putting on seven localised events on both New Year\u2019s Eve and New Year\u2019s Day that will provide festive opportunities for our community to reconnect, reflect, and refresh heading into 2021.<br \/>\n\u201cYou can pack a\u00a0picnic blanket, bring a basket and\u00a0stock\u00a0up on\u00a0your\u00a0favourite goodies from local food providers\u00a0before settling back with family and friends to enjoy a picnic in the\u00a0park.<br \/>\n\u201cOur swimming centres will also\u00a0allow you to splash into 2021\u00a0at\u00a0festive pool parties where you can make a day of it with\u00a0water-based\u00a0inflatables, roving entertainment and\u00a0a selection of\u00a0food trucks.\u201d<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Sample the delights of the food trucks and produce stalls for a tasty New Year's picnic in the park.\" \/><br \/>\nNewcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes Nelmes said the fireworks display planned for 2020 would be deferred until 2021 when festivities would return to the Newcastle Foreshore, subject to any public health orders in place at that time.<br \/>\n\u201c2020 has been a year like no other, but what it has shown above all is our community\u2019s ability to work together for the benefit of all,\u201d Cr Nelmes said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe city deserves the chance to celebrate what we have achieved\u00a0together this year and everything we\u2019re looking forward to in 2021.<br \/>\n\u201cI encourage Novocastrians to enjoy\u00a0the New Year\u2019s period\u00a0in a COVID Safe way, whether they attend one of our events, support our local restaurants and bars,\u00a0or gather with friends (3pm to 8pm),\u00a0including\u00a0roving entertainment and children\u2019s activities.<\/li>\n<li>Activations at Beresfield, Mayfield, Stockton and Wallsend pools on New Year\u2019s Day\u00a0(10am to 4pm), including inflatables, food trucks and roving entertainment.<\/li>\n<li>Food\u00a0Markets at\u00a0Richley\u00a0Reserve on New Year\u2019s Day (10am to 4pm), including roving entertainment, children\u2019s activities and a \u2018sensory zone\u2019 for\u00a0people with disabilities and their families.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Visit\u00a0<a
