{"id":9453,"date":"2020-12-02T23:24:28","date_gmt":"2020-12-02T23:24:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=9453"},"modified":"2020-12-02T23:24:28","modified_gmt":"2020-12-02T23:24:28","slug":"government-charges-ahead-with-electric-buses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/12\/02\/government-charges-ahead-with-electric-buses\/","title":{"rendered":"GOVERNMENT CHARGES AHEAD WITH ELECTRIC BUSES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 50 new electric buses will roll out across Sydney over the next year, as part of the NSW Government\u2019s commitment to deliver faster and quieter services.<br \/>\nMinister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance said the government is transitioning the state\u2019s fleet of 8,000 buses to zero emission technology.<br \/>\n\u201cI want to scale up our efforts towards tackling climate change\u00a0 so I am challenging\u00a0 Transport for NSW to aim for my goal of electrifying the state\u2019s entire bus fleet by 2030,\u201d Mr Constance said.<br \/>\n\u201cI am excited to see us one step closer to our vision of creating a greener, cleaner and healthier future for the people of NSW, with more people now able to enjoy our electric bus fleet right across Sydney.<br \/>\n\u201cOver the last 18 months we\u2019ve been trialling five electric buses in the Inner West, and the feedback from drivers and customers has been positive.<br \/>\nThe new electric buses are part of the Government\u2019s fleet replacement program, with the first vehicles expected on the road during the first quarter of 2021.<br \/>\nThey have been ordered from a range of manufacturers, including BCI, Yutong, Nexport BYD Gemilang and Nexport BYD Volgren.<br \/>\nThey will be rolled out by several operators &#8211; Punchbowl Bus Company, Busabout\u00a0 and Interline\u00a0 in the south west, Transdev\u00a0 in the north, with Transit Systems making the largest order for the inner west with more than 30.<br \/>\n<a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a><br \/>\nTransport for NSW&#8217;s Deputy Secretary of Greater Sydney Elizabeth Mildwater said more local manufacturers will feature in future orders of zero emission buses.<br \/>\n\u201cThere are a lot more zero emission buses to come and we\u2019re delighted that local manufacturers like Bustech and Custom Buses are getting into the game with their buses currently undergoing a review to ensure they meet local standards, while Nexport is planning to set up a local plant,\u201d Ms Mildwater said.<br \/>\n\u201cOnce they and other manufacturers are ready, our operators will have more choices to buy locally.
