{"id":9319,"date":"2020-11-24T06:06:50","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T06:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=9319"},"modified":"2020-11-24T06:06:50","modified_gmt":"2020-11-24T06:06:50","slug":"byron-bay-restaurant-fined-5000-for-breaching-covid-public-health-orders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/11\/24\/byron-bay-restaurant-fined-5000-for-breaching-covid-public-health-orders\/","title":{"rendered":"Byron Bay restaurant fined $5,000 for breaching COVID Public Health Orders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Byron Bay restaurant has been issued with a $5,000 fine for an alleged breach of Ministerial Directions under the Public Health Act at the weekend.<br \/>\nAs a part of \u2018Operation Summer Safe 2020\u2019 and \u2018Operation Schoolies 2020\u2019, licensing police from Northern Region conducted a deployment to Byron Bay between Saturday 21 and Monday 23 November, assessing venue compliance with regards to the Public Health Orders.<br \/>\nAs a result of inquiries, police attended a restaurant on Jonson Street, where they observed more than the designated one person per four square metres inside the venue, over a two-day period.<br \/>\nFollowing further inquiries, police contacted the business owner yesterday (Monday 23 November 2020) and issued a $5,000 Penalty Infringement Notice for &#8220;Fail to comply with noticed direction in relation to Section 7\/8\/9 \u2013 COVID-19 \u2013 Corporation&#8221;.<br \/>\nTweed\/Byron Police District Commander, Superintendent Dave Roptell said as thousands of school leavers arrive in Byron this week, venues need to be aware of their responsibilities in maintaining a COVID-Safe environment.<br \/>\n\u201cThere are Year 12 students coming to Byron Bay from all across Australia, including Victoria, Queensland and Greater Sydney.<br \/>\n\u201cOur specialised licensing police will continue to conduct business inspections and compliance checks throughout the entire \u2018Schoolies\u2019 and \u2018Summer Safe\u2019 operations, to ensure venues have their COVID-Safety plans up-to-date and are doing their bit to protect the Northern NSW community,\u201d Supt Roptell said.<br \/>\nPolice continue to appeal to the community to report suspected breaches of any ministerial direction or behaviour which may impact on the health and safety of the community.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Anyone who has information regarding individuals or businesses in contravention of a COVID-19-related ministerial direction is urged to contact Crime Stoppers:<\/em><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/nsw.crimestoppers.com.au\/\"><strong><em>https:\/\/nsw.crimestoppers.com.au<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em>.
