{"id":9117,"date":"2020-11-12T09:13:32","date_gmt":"2020-11-12T09:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=9117"},"modified":"2020-11-12T09:13:32","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T09:13:32","slug":"60-million-investment-in-nsw-police-academy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/11\/12\/60-million-investment-in-nsw-police-academy\/","title":{"rendered":"$60 MILLION INVESTMENT IN NSW POLICE ACADEMY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NSW Police Academy in Goulburn will benefit from\u00a0a $60 million upgrade, as part of the\u00a02020-21 NSW Budget, providing state-of-the-art training facilities for the NSW Police Force.<br \/>\nThe capital works will increase service capacity, enhance training capabilities and deliver a long-term infrastructure and development strategy for the Academy.<br \/>\nTreasurer Dominic Perrottet said this funding boost is in addition to the NSW Government\u2019s $583 million investment to introduce 1,500 extra police over four years to enhance community safety across NSW.<br \/>\n\u201cThe NSW Police Academy\u00a0is currently the sole provider of police training and education to probationary constables of the NSW Police Force,\u201d\u00a0Mr\u00a0Perrottet\u00a0said.<br \/>\n\u201cThis\u00a0investment\u00a0is about giving our police recruits the best possible training, supported by modern and\u00a0well-equipped\u00a0facilities. These upgrades will also support jobs\u00a0as we get the economy back on track post-Covid.\u201d<br \/>\nMinister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott said the increased number of new police officer positions has seen more recruits pass through the Police Academy.<br \/>\n\u201cThe announcement of 1,500 new police over four years was unprecedented. So far this year we have seen more than 800 recruits attest through the Academy.\u201d Mr Elliott said.<br \/>\n\u201cUpgrading the existing facilities at the Academy is critical to meet the needs of an enhanced and growing Police Force.\u00a0As the nature of policing changes, so too must the training we provide our officers.<br \/>\n\u201cThe NSW Government will continue to back our men and women in blue.\u00a0This\u00a0capital investment will deliver a long-term infrastructure and development strategy for the Police Academy\u00a0and improve the already world-class training all our State\u2019s officers receive.\u201d<br \/>\nPolice\u00a0Commissioner\u00a0Mick\u00a0Fuller\u00a0APM\u00a0welcomed today\u2019s announcement saying the investment will enhance the NSW Police Force\u2019s capability into the future.<br \/>\n\u201cThis year has highlighted that police play a critical role in supporting and making NSW a\u00a0safer community &#8211; no matter what the nature of the crisis or operational need,\u201d Commissioner Fuller said.<br \/>\n\u201cAll recruits are required to undertake training at the Goulburn Academy, and it is vital that we provide state-of-the-art training facilities to get the best trained officers out on the street.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThe upgraded facility will help us better equip our officers with the skills they need to face modern day challenges of policing.\u201d<br \/>\nMember for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said it will be a significant investment in the area.<br \/>\n\u201cThis will not only be a boost for our police force statewide, but will also be a boost for our local economy and provide jobs for the region,\u201d Ms Tuckerman said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Police Academy is an important part of our community and I look forward to seeing it receive the state-of-the-art upgrades it requires.\u201d<br \/>\nThe upgrade project at Goulburn Police Academy is expected to be\u00a0finalised\u00a0by 2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NSW Police Academy in Goulburn will benefit from\u00a0a $60 million upgrade, as part of the\u00a02020-21 NSW Budget, providing state-of-the-art training facilities for the NSW Police Force.
