{"id":9070,"date":"2020-11-09T09:56:18","date_gmt":"2020-11-09T09:56:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=9070"},"modified":"2020-11-09T09:56:18","modified_gmt":"2020-11-09T09:56:18","slug":"energy-superpower-plan-to-turbocharge-renewable-energy-zones-and-pumped-hydro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/11\/09\/energy-superpower-plan-to-turbocharge-renewable-energy-zones-and-pumped-hydro\/","title":{"rendered":"ENERGY SUPERPOWER PLAN TO TURBOCHARGE RENEWABLE ENERGY ZONES AND PUMPED HYDRO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 9,000 jobs and $32 billion of private investment is expected to roll into the regions by 2030, under the NSW Government\u2019s\u00a0<em>Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap<\/em>, released today.<br \/>\nThe\u00a0<em>Roadmap<\/em>\u00a0lays out the Government\u2019s 20 year plan to deliver Renewable Energy Zones, energy storage such as pumped hydro, and on demand supply like gas and batteries, needed to reduce emissions and provide cheap, reliable electricity across the State.<br \/>\nDeputy Premier John Barilaro said the\u00a0<em>Roadmap<\/em>\u00a0will deliver Australia\u2019s first Renewable Energy Zones in the Central West and New England regions by 2030.<br \/>\n\u201cThe stimulus the Renewable Energy Zones will provide to regional communities will unlock over 9,000 new jobs and will be a huge boost to farmers and land owners, with $1.5 billion in lease payments expected to go to landholders hosting new infrastructure by 2042,\u201d Mr Barilaro said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe\u00a0<em>Roadmap\u00a0<\/em>will make sure that renewables are developed where regional communities want them and where they are compatible with farming.\u201d<br \/>\nTreasurer Dominic Perrottet said the\u00a0<em>Roadmap<\/em>\u00a0will grow the economy, create jobs and deliver an expected $32 billion of private sector investment in electricity infrastructure by the end of the next decade.<br \/>\n\u201cComing out of this crisis, not only are we stimulating the economy to create jobs now, we are looking toward the reforms NSW needs to secure our future,\u201d Mr Perrottet said.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a big productivity plus. The Roadmap will help boost our energy security and deliver to NSW some of the cheapest prices in the OECD, cutting power bills for families.\u201d<br \/>\nEnergy Minister Matt Kean said the\u00a0<em>Roadmap<\/em>\u00a0will support the private sector to bring 12 gigawatts of renewable energy and 2 gigawatts of storage, such as pumped hydro, online by 2030.<br \/>\n\u201cOur priority is to keep the lights on and get power prices down, with the Roadmap forecast to save NSW households an average of $130 and small businesses an average of $430 on their electricity bills each year,\u201d Mr Kean said.<br \/>\n\u201cNSW has some of the best natural resources in the world and this\u00a0<em>Roadmap<\/em>\u00a0is about acting now to leverage our competitive advantage and to position NSW as an energy superpower.\u201d<br \/>\nWater Minister Melinda Pavey said the Roadmap includes $50 million in grants to support the delivery of pumped hydro projects.<br \/>\n\u201cPumped hydro is a proven form of large-scale storage and NSW has some fantastic pumped hydro opportunities,\u201d Ms Pavey said.<br \/>\n\u201cThis plan delivers the long term certainty needed for the private sector to invest now and drive jobs and investment in the regions.\u201d<br \/>\nMember for Dubbo Dugald Saunders said the\u00a0<em>Roadmap<\/em>\u00a0cements the region as the renewable hub of the future.<br \/>\n\u201cOur community is thrilled to have the State\u2019s first Renewable Energy Zone right here in the Central West unlocking opportunities for jobs and investment that will be the foundation for our future prosperity,\u201d Mr Saunders said.<br \/>\nThe\u00a0<em>Roadmap\u00a0<\/em>sets out a plan to modernise the State\u2019s electricity infrastructure by:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cutting red-tape and speeding up approvals for transmission infrastructure in Renewable Energy Zones, while protecting the interests of consumers,<\/li>\n<li>Creating a long term investment signal for new generation in Renewable Energy Zones, long duration storage such as pumped hydro, and on demand supply, like gas and batteries, and<\/li>\n<li>Making sure that renewable projects proceed where local communities want them and in ways that are consistent with farming.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For further information and to view the Roadmap visit:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/energy.nsw.gov.au\/government-and-regulation\/electricity-infrastructure-roadmap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/energy.nsw.gov.au\/government-and-regulation\/electricity-infrastructure-roadmap&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1604979301748000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH7w0cwm4FaR3dxUFGiLDUaPWMhhQ\">https:\/\/energy.nsw.gov.au\/<wbr \/>government-and-regulation\/<wbr \/>electricity-infrastructure-<wbr \/>roadmap<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 9,000 jobs and $32 billion of private investment is expected to roll into the regions by 2030, under the NSW Government\u2019s\u00a0Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, released today.
