A driver has been charged after a passenger died in a single-vehicle crash in the Hunter region overnight.
\nEmergency services were called to Anambah Road at Rutherford, 8km north-east of Maitland, shortly after
\n9pm (Saturday 7 November 2020), after a Ford utility left the roadway and hit a guard rail.
\nThe front passenger seat was thrown from the vehicle.
\nOfficers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended and commenced inquiries.
\nThe passenger, a 29-year-old man, was declared deceased at the scene.
\nThe driver, a 33-year-old man, was arrested and taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing, before being taken to Maitland Police Station.
\nHe was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving (occasioning death).
\nThe man has been granted conditional bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on Wednesday 9 December 2020.
