{"id":9009,"date":"2020-11-05T00:37:49","date_gmt":"2020-11-05T00:37:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=9009"},"modified":"2020-11-05T00:37:49","modified_gmt":"2020-11-05T00:37:49","slug":"lets-get-redress-working-for-survivors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/11\/05\/lets-get-redress-working-for-survivors\/","title":{"rendered":"LET\u2019S GET REDRESS WORKING FOR SURVIVORS"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wysiwyg\">\nLabor is proposing to work with the Government to get the National Redress Scheme working for survivors again.<br \/>\nEight years since the announcement of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, survivors are getting older and many are still waiting for Redress, and some are tragically dying and missing out altogether.<br \/>\nThe Royal Commission estimated 60,000 survivors would be eligible for Redress.<br \/>\nYet, as of September 2020, the Scheme has only made 3,498 payments; and is still processing 3,187 applications.<br \/>\nThe Scheme that was ultimately rolled out by the Government did not fully realise the recommendations of the Royal Commission.<br \/>\nLabor\u2019s proposed amendments to the scheme will make it more like the Royal Commission\u2019s recommendations.<br \/>\nLabor is willing to work constructively with the Government to get the scheme working and delivering Redress for survivors.<br \/>\nFixing the National Redress Scheme should not be put in the \u2018too-hard basket\u2019; and changes do not need to jeopardise any aspect of the Scheme.<br \/>\nWith leadership \u2013 and in co-operation with states, territories and institutions \u2013 the Government can do the right thing for survivors.\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page-share\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Labor is proposing to work with the Government to get the National Redress Scheme working for survivors again.
