{"id":8912,"date":"2020-10-28T07:33:14","date_gmt":"2020-10-28T07:33:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=8912"},"modified":"2020-10-28T07:33:14","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T07:33:14","slug":"council-holds-first-meeting-in-new-chamber","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/10\/28\/council-holds-first-meeting-in-new-chamber\/","title":{"rendered":"Council holds first meeting in new chamber"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>City of Newcastle will mark a milestone with the first \u2018Ordinary Council Meeting\u2019 held at the new chambers at the City Administration Centre.<br \/>\nThe meeting will be the first held at a location outside of City Hall and due to COVID safe precautions, will utilise a hybrid format, with Councillors having the option to attend the chamber in person or log in to the meeting remotely via video conferencing.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Council-Chamber-12SA.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/Council-holds-first-meeting-in-new-chamber\/Council-Chamber-12SA.jpg\" alt=\"Council-Chamber-12SA.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nNewcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said the Ordinary Council Meeting is a milestone in the relocation of its City Administration Building to Newcastle West.<br \/>\n\u201cOur new City Administration Centre makes the best use of every piece of space and utilises the modern design to enable staff to meet the growing demands of our ever evolving city.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Digital Library, co-located with our Customer Service Centre on level one, has been designed to be easily packed away\u00a0to allow the space to double as the Council Chamber when meetings occur\u00a0twice\u00a0each month.<br \/>\n\u201cThe chamber was designed to enable it to be moved into storage so the space can be used by the library and community when meetings are not taking place.<br \/>\n\u201cThe new modern chamber is also equipped with technology that allows for an adapted meeting format to take place to accommodate COVID-19 restrictions. This technology is not available in the preserved heritage chambers at City Hall.\u201d<br \/>\nRemote participants will be visible and audible to the Chamber participants on two large ceiling mounted screens and speaker system installed in the chamber.<br \/>\nEveryone will be able to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/council\/about-council\/council-meetings\/webcast-of-council-meetings?viewmode=0\">tune in to the livestream<\/a>\u00a0on City of Newcastle\u2019s website from 6pm as the COVIDSafe plan unfortunately does not allow the community to physically attend the meeting at this time.<br \/>\nWhile the change of meeting location ushers in a new era for City of Newcastle, its historic 90\u2013year-old City Hall will continue to be used by the community.<br \/>\nCity Hall\u2019s historic Council Chamber will be opened to the public, community groups and still used for Council committee meetings.<br \/>\nThe City is developing programs which promote access to the chamber and civic spaces, including information and education about the City\u2019s civic history and the City Hall building.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>City of Newcastle will mark a milestone with the first \u2018Ordinary Council Meeting\u2019 held at the new chambers at the City Administration Centre.
