{"id":8791,"date":"2020-10-19T21:14:20","date_gmt":"2020-10-19T21:14:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=8791"},"modified":"2020-10-19T21:14:20","modified_gmt":"2020-10-19T21:14:20","slug":"community-invited-to-envision-libraries-of-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/10\/19\/community-invited-to-envision-libraries-of-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Community invited to envision libraries of the future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Community members\u00a0are being encouraged to share their visions of how Newcastle Libraries\u2019 spaces\u00a0and\u00a0services might be made even better in the future.<br \/>\nCity of Newcastle is conducting early engagement to inform the development of a Contemporary Libraries Infrastructure Plan (CLIP)\u00a0to meet the community\u2019s evolving needs and expectations\u00a0for libraries\u00a0for the future.<br \/>\nThe Library Satisfaction and Infrastructure Survey opened today\u00a0and aims to measure current satisfaction levels with the Libraries\u2019 online and branch services, understand expectations around access to help and expert advice,\u00a0as well as how the community accesses library services both now and into\u00a0the future, including ideas for co-location and pop-up venues across the city.<br \/>\nLord Mayor\u00a0Nuatali\u00a0Nelmes said\u00a0libraries were\u00a0no longer a place to simply borrow items, but a place to gather and exchange ideas and information, foster lifelong learning and preserve information and culture for future generations.<br \/>\n\u201cOur Libraries are multi-functional community spaces where you can research a history project, borrow the latest books and DVDs\u00a0on-the-go,\u00a0and access cutting-edge technology\u00a0like the 3D printer and digital story wall available at the City\u2019s newest Digital Library at the City Administration Centre,\u201d Cr Nelmes said.<br \/>\n\u201cIn addition,\u00a0the City\u2019s expansive e-Library\u00a0collection\u00a0and large range of information and learning databases complement the\u00a0Newcastle Libraries App and Home Library Service,\u00a0which means\u00a0your\u00a0library is available 24\/7\u00a0\u2013\u00a0anytime, anywhere.<br \/>\n\u201cFeedback from this survey will help guide future projects and initiatives in line with Newcastle Libraries\u2019 adopted 10-year strategic plan to 2029, which identifies the need for new and refreshed infrastructure to support the Libraries\u2019 evolution.\u201d<br \/>\nManager Libraries and Learning, Suzie Gately, said the survey would also identify factors that would encourage people to use library services more often.<br \/>\n\u201cOur aim is to better understand the needs, experiences and behaviours of those who currently use our libraries, as well as those who currently do not but who might in the future,\u201d Ms Gately said.<br \/>\n\u201cThis aligns with our strategic plan to create vibrant, safe and active public places for all.
