A critical incident investigation has been launched following a single-vehicle crash in Cessnock.
\nDuring Thursday 29 November 2018, officers from Hunter Valley Police District were making inquiries to locate a 60-year-old man.
\nAbout midday, it\u2019s believed the man driving a Nissan Navara, saw police on Richmond Vale Road, Cessnock, and drove off at speed, before hitting a tree.
\nOfficers commenced CPR on the driver \u2013 and sole-occupant of the vehicle \u2013 until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics, but he died at the scene.
\nA crime scene was established and will be forensically examined by Crash Investigation Unit officers.
\nNewcastle City Police District officers will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
\nThat investigation will be subject to an independent review and will be monitored by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
\nAnyone that has information that may assist is urged to come forward.
