Business Rate\u00a0programs.<br \/>\nFestivals of comedy,\u00a0sailing\u00a0and\u00a0beer,\u00a0spectacular park\u00a0lighting,\u00a0and virtual tours\u00a0to\u00a0entice people to explore the\u00a0city\u2019s history\u00a0and creative\u00a0culture,\u00a0have received\u00a0well needed financial support\u00a0aimed\u00a0at\u00a0stimulating\u00a0the local\u00a0economy.<br \/>\n<img alt=\"Sailfest-Event-Sponsorship-funding-1.jpg\" \/>Fifteen projects\u00a0that\u00a0promote, beautify and develop the\u00a0City Centre\u00a0and Darby Street\u00a0have shared in a pool\u00a0more than\u00a0$930,000\u00a0under the Special Business Program,\u00a0while\u00a0a further\u00a016\u00a0events and activations\u00a0have\u00a0received\u00a0$177,000\u00a0from the\u00a0Event\u00a0Sponsorship\u00a0Program.<br \/>\nCity of Newcastle\u00a0Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen\u00a0said the\u00a0funding will\u00a0help activate public spaces\u00a0and strengthen the\u00a0city&#8217;s reputation as a destination for tourism, business and events.<br \/>\n\u201cNot only will businesses stand to reap substantial economic gains from the unique\u00a0and\u00a0engaging\u00a0events\u00a0and\u00a0activities\u00a0funded, the projects will breathe life into the\u00a0city centre and encourage\u00a0people to\u00a0spend locally.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThese funding programs\u202fare more important than ever in the wake of COVID-19 and its unprecedented economic and social impacts\u202fon our community.<br \/>\n\u201cCOVID-19 has caused major disruption\u00a0to the\u00a0city\u2019s\u00a0vibrant\u00a0event calendar,\u00a0so it\u2019s\u00a0heartening to see this financial boost go towards reinvigorating\u00a0COVID-safe\u00a0sporting, cultural and entertainment\u00a0events that\u00a0will attract visitors to Newcastle.\u201d<br \/>\nAfter\u00a0a cancelled\u00a02020 event due to COVID-19\u00a0restrictions,\u00a0Newcastle\u2019s\u00a0Sailfest\u00a0will be\u00a0back\u00a0for a\u00a0special regatta on\u00a0the harbour and\u00a0celebration\u00a0of all things sailing in April next year.<br \/>\n\u201cNewcastle Harbour provides a perfect stage for\u00a0people\u00a0on the Foreshore\u00a0to see everything from Olympic-class boats in action through to model yacht racing,\u201d\u00a0Newcastle Yacht Club\u00a0CEO Paul\u00a0O\u2019Rourke said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are\u00a0grateful\u00a0to\u00a0receive financial support that enables us to\u00a0continue this\u00a0event\u00a0in 2021.\u00a0\u00a0Sailfest\u00a0brings together people from all walks of life to\u00a0celebrate the sport of sailing\u00a0and enjoy the beauty of our harbour.\u201d<br \/>\nFestive\u00a0cheer\u00a0will sweep the\u00a0city\u00a0centre\u00a0in December\u00a0with\u00a0a life-size\u00a0Christmas\u202ftree\u00a0maze\u00a0set to pop up in\u00a0Civic Park\u00a0and\u00a0Santa\u00a0flying\u00a0in from the North Pole\u00a0for a week of free\u00a0family\u00a0photos.<br \/>\n\u201cLocal businesses\u00a0will be\u00a0hoping for\u00a0a strong\u00a0Christmas trade\u00a0to\u00a0see off\u00a0what has been a\u00a0tough\u00a0year for\u00a0the\u00a0retail and hospitality\u00a0sectors.\u00a0\u00a0By providing\u00a0fun, playful and free and promotion\u00a0opportunities\u00a0for local musicians.<br \/>\n<strong>Creative Newcastle\u202f-\u00a0<\/strong>An ambitious project to bolster Newcastle\u2019s arts, business and night-time economy sector, through digital development, data collation, promotion and events.<br \/>\n<strong>City Lights for Social Change\u202f-<\/strong>\u00a0Permanent\u00a0lighting\u00a0array\u00a0for Civic Park creating a spectacular\u00a0lightscape\u00a0to attract people to walk from and through Hunter and King Street, Civic Park to Darby Street.<br \/>\n<strong>Discover Newcastle Mobile Adventures\u202f-<\/strong>\u00a0A digital\u00a0app-based treasure hunt game designed to bring families, tourists, school and social groups into the city centre and promote foot traffic to different landmarks and highlights of the city&#8217;s business precinct.<br \/>\n<strong>Made\u00a0In\u00a0Newcastle\u202f-\u00a0<\/strong>A city-wide undertaking in collaboration with local businesses, regional tourism, and Newcastle&#8217;s vibrant arts community to run a series of events over many months in 2020 &#8211; 2021.<br \/>\n<strong>Newcastle Food Month\u202f-<\/strong>\u00a0month-long project promoting\u00a0what makes Newcastle and the surrounding precincts a gastronomic playground.<br \/>\n<strong>Archaeology Alive Walking Tour\u202f-<\/strong>\u00a0showcasing\u00a0archaeological excavations undertaken in the Newcastle and Darby Street SBR area, and delivered through the City of Newcastle App.<br \/>\n<strong>UP&amp;UP Street Art Workshops &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Create Your Space\u202f-\u00a0will activate Wheeler Place with interactive street art workshops and live painting exhibitions during the New Annual Festival in February 2021.<br \/>\n<strong>Christmas in the City\u202f-\u00a0<\/strong>will activate spaces in the City Centre and Darby St, attracting people to the areas prior to Christmas and encourage people to spend at local businesses<br \/>\n<strong>The Little Green\u202f-<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0a celebration of nature, music, giving and community\u00a0in the form of a space-making installation in the\u00a0Hunter\u00a0Street\u00a0Mall area.<br
