{"id":8373,"date":"2020-09-26T03:21:42","date_gmt":"2020-09-26T03:21:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=8373"},"modified":"2020-09-26T03:21:42","modified_gmt":"2020-09-26T03:21:42","slug":"see-the-world-in-a-new-light-at-newcastle-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/09\/26\/see-the-world-in-a-new-light-at-newcastle-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"See the world in a new light at Newcastle Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>School trips to Canberra may have been cancelled due to COVID-19,\u00a0but\u00a0you can still\u00a0get a taste of one of the capital\u2019s most\u00a0popular experiences\u00a0when\u00a0Questacon\u2019s\u00a0Colour\u00a0exhibition\u00a0opens at Newcastle Museum\u00a0today.<br \/>\nLaunched just in time for the start of the school holidays,\u00a0this special\u00a0touring\u00a0exhibition\u00a0developed by Questacon &#8211;\u00a0the\u00a0National Science and Technology Centre\u00a0explores\u00a0the science of colour and perception through more than 20 different interactive experiences.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Newcastle Museum Director Julie Baird with Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen at Questacon\u2019s Colour exhibition.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/See-the-world-in-a-new-light-at-Newcastle-Museum\/Newcastle-Museum-Questacon-Colour-exhibition-web.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle-Museum-Questacon-Colour-exhibition-web.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nSet up in\u00a0a COVID Safe space\u00a0in the Supernova Gallery,\u00a0Colour\u00a0allows\u00a0visitors\u00a0to discover\u00a0how light influences colour and\u00a0why\u00a0we all see colour differently, using everything from coloured bubbles and iridescent insects to\u00a0spectacular fluorescent rocks\u00a0and\u00a0colour illusions.<br \/>\nQuestacon\u00a0partnered with the Australian National Insect Collection and Geoscience Australia\u00a0for this exhibition,\u00a0which runs from 25 September 2020 to 31 January 2021.<br \/>\nNewcastle Museum will also launch a second new exhibition on 25 September,\u00a0showcasing the work\u00a0of Newcastle photographer Luke Kellett.\u00a0isolation: Portraits of Newcastle during COVID-19\u00a0includes around 25 large format photographs\u00a0taken\u00a0in the wake\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0first COVID-19 Public Health Order closures announced in March 2020.<br \/>\nNewcastle Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen said\u00a0Colour\u00a0and\u00a0isolation: Portraits of Newcastle\u00a0during COVID-19\u00a0represented the amazing calibre of touring and self-curated exhibitions being offered throughout the year by the Museum.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0excited to showcase the\u00a0Colour\u00a0exhibition to the Museum&#8217;s audience in Newcastle and the Hunter, offering a taste of the science-based fun that both Questacon and our Museum are so well known for,\u201d Cr Clausen\u00a0said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re also proud to play a role in recording history for future generations through the pictures and stories of Novocastrians during the current COVID-19 pandemic.<br \/>\n\u201cOur Museum continues to raise its profile nationally by presenting world class exhibitions to our community and I encourage everyone to come along and take a look for themselves.\u201d<br \/>\nNewcastle Museum Director Julie Baird said\u00a0as part of\u00a0isolation: Portraits of Newcastle during COVID-19,\u00a0Luke\u00a0wanted to document how the city felt and looked without the usual crowds and to explore togetherness during isolation. Luke photographed different types of households in isolation\u00a0and\u00a0recorded his subject\u2019s thoughts, fears and hopes for the future\u00a0via written responses to questions.<br \/>\n\u201cThrough this amazing exhibition visitors can see how other people experienced\u00a0isolation, and experience how in 100 years\u2019 time Newcastle will remember this momentous period of time,\u201d Ms Baird said.<br \/>\nTickets\u00a0for\u00a0Colour\u00a0can be purchased through the Newcastle Museum\u2019s website\u00a0and cost $10 for adult,\u00a0$5 for children\u00a0aged three\u00a0and over\u00a0and $7 for concession card holders, while a family pass\u00a0(two\u00a0adults\u00a0and two\u00a0children)\u00a0is\u00a0$25.\u00a0Entry into\u00a0isolation: Portraits of Newcastle\u00a0during COVID-19\u00a0is free.<br \/>\nVisitors should\u00a0bring\u00a0a mobile\u00a0phone to enter the museum\u00a0using a\u00a0QR\u00a0code\u00a0and interact with\u00a0both exhibitions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>School trips to Canberra may have been cancelled due to COVID-19,\u00a0but\u00a0you can still\u00a0get a taste of one of the capital\u2019s most\u00a0popular experiences\u00a0when\u00a0Questacon\u2019s\u00a0Colour\u00a0exhibition\u00a0opens at Newcastle Museum\u00a0today.
