{"id":8022,"date":"2020-09-04T06:13:50","date_gmt":"2020-09-04T06:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=8022"},"modified":"2020-09-04T06:13:50","modified_gmt":"2020-09-04T06:13:50","slug":"human-biosecurity-emergency-period-extended-by-three-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/09\/04\/human-biosecurity-emergency-period-extended-by-three-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Human Biosecurity Emergency Period Extended By Three Months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Government will extend the human biosecurity emergency period under the Biosecurity Act 2015 by an additional three months.<br \/>\nThe emergency period, which has been in place since 18 March 2020, will now be in place until 17\u00a0December 2020.<br \/>\nThe extension of the emergency period was informed by specialist medical and epidemiological advice provided by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC).<br \/>\nAHPPC has advised that the international and domestic COVID-19 situation continues to pose an unacceptable public health risk.<br \/>\nThe extension of the emergency period is an appropriate response to that risk.<br \/>\nThe human biosecurity emergency declaration ensures the Government has the powers to take any necessary measures to prevent and control COVID-19 and protect the health of all Australians. These powers have been used on a limited basis on expert medical advice.<br \/>\nThere are currently four Determinations under section 477 of the Biosecurity Act which are in place to protect Australians during the COVID-19 pandemic, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Restrictions on the entry of cruise ships into Australia<\/li>\n<li>Protections for the supply and sale of certain essential goods<\/li>\n<li>Restrictions on overseas travel<\/li>\n<li>Restrictions on retail stores at international airports<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Government will extend the human biosecurity emergency period under the Biosecurity Act 2015 by an additional three months.
