{"id":8001,"date":"2020-09-03T04:37:26","date_gmt":"2020-09-03T04:37:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=8001"},"modified":"2020-09-03T04:37:26","modified_gmt":"2020-09-03T04:37:26","slug":"missing-motorway-link-hits-major-milestone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/09\/03\/missing-motorway-link-hits-major-milestone\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018MISSING\u2019 MOTORWAY LINK HITS MAJOR MILESTONE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Half of the tunnelling on the critical M4-M5 Link Tunnels has now been completed, marking a major milestone on \u2018the missing link\u2019 in Sydney\u2019s motorway network.<br \/>\nPremier Gladys Berejiklian said work on the M4-M5 Link Tunnels is progressing well, and is on track for the project to open on schedule in 2023.<br \/>\n\u201cMore than 6,800 workers have been involved in the project to date, providing valuable jobs when we need them most.<br \/>\n\u201cAlong with the Rozelle Interchange, this project will allow drivers to experience the full benefits of the WestConnex motorway network, Australia\u2019s biggest road infrastructure project,\u201d Ms Berejiklian said.<br \/>\nThe M4-M5 Link Tunnels connect the M4 at Haberfield with the M8 at St Peters, along with connecting to future projects including Sydney Gateway to Sydney Airport, the M6, the Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link via the Rozelle Interchange.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen complete, WestConnex will change the way Sydneysiders get around their city. WestConnex will bust congestion and increase economic activity,\u201d Minister for Roads Andrew Constance said.<br \/>\n\u201cIt will also give local roads back to local people, with the majority of the project underground.\u201d<br \/>\nEarlier stages of WestConnex, the New M4 Tunnels (opened in July 2019) and the M8 (opened in July 2020) are providing tens of thousands of motorists with significant travel time savings since opening.<br \/>\nWhen complete, the M4-M5 Link Tunnels will provide drivers with additional travel time savings, including an estimated 40 minutes off a trip from Parramatta to Sydney Airport.<br \/>\nProject facts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7.5km twin tunnels up to four lanes in each direction<\/li>\n<li>Four tunnelling sites (St Peters, Annandale, Haberfield x2)<\/li>\n<li>58m at deepest point, average depth 35m<\/li>\n<li>28 roadheaders in use<\/li>\n<li>Expected travel time around 8 minutes from St Peters to Haberfield<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Half of the tunnelling on the critical M4-M5 Link Tunnels has now been completed, marking a major milestone on \u2018the missing link\u2019 in Sydney\u2019s motorway network.
