{"id":7795,"date":"2020-08-21T02:20:02","date_gmt":"2020-08-21T02:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=7795"},"modified":"2020-08-21T02:20:02","modified_gmt":"2020-08-21T02:20:02","slug":"80-million-boost-for-sydneys-rail-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/08\/21\/80-million-boost-for-sydneys-rail-network\/","title":{"rendered":"$80 MILLION BOOST FOR SYDNEY\u2019S RAIL NETWORK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A contract worth around $80 million has been signed by the NSW Government to run Sydney\u2019s rail network more effectively.<br \/>\nSiemens Mobility Pty Ltd (Siemens) will introduce the new Traffic Management System (TMS), which will be operated from the Rail Operations Centre, and will work alongside other systems used by Sydney Trains to control train operations.<br \/>\nThe TMS continually monitors the position of all trains, helping to keep train services running as planned and assists with responses to incidents.<br \/>\nMinister for Transport Andrew Constance said the TMS is a key component of Digital Systems \u2013 a Program that will progressively replace legacy signalling and train control technologies with modern, internationally proven, intelligent systems.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is an important step in the process of upgrading our network with internationally proven technology that boosts safety, capacity, reliability and enhances the customer experience,\u201d Mr Constance said.<br \/>\n\u201cSydney\u2019s heavy rail network is the backbone of our public transport system and it\u2019s crucial we have the latest systems and technology available to serve our customers well into the future.\u201d<br \/>\nThe TMS is due to be available for operation in 2023.<br \/>\nThe Digital Systems Program will also increase safety and reliability by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Replacing traditional trackside signalling equipment with the latest \u2018in cab\u2019 train control technology<\/li>\n<li>Implementing Automatic Train Operation, which assists drivers \u2013 who remain in control \u2013 to improve operations and reduce journey times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Digital Systems will initially be deployed to two sections of the T4 Line from Sutherland to Cronulla and from Bondi Junction to Redfern.<br \/>\nPlanning for future deployments of Digital Systems to other parts of Sydney\u2019s rail network is currently underway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A contract worth around $80 million has been signed by the NSW Government to run Sydney\u2019s rail network more effectively.
