{"id":7581,"date":"2020-08-05T18:05:41","date_gmt":"2020-08-05T18:05:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=7581"},"modified":"2020-08-05T18:05:41","modified_gmt":"2020-08-05T18:05:41","slug":"250-million-boost-for-public-spaces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/08\/05\/250-million-boost-for-public-spaces\/","title":{"rendered":"$250 MILLION BOOST FOR PUBLIC SPACES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Councils across NSW will have the opportunity to deliver new and improved public spaces for their local communities thanks to a $250 million program announced today, as part of the NSW Government\u2019s COVID-19 Recovery Plan.<br \/>\nTreasurer Dominic Perrottet said local councils that focus on fast-tracking development assessments for projects that deliver much-needed jobs and housing will be eligible for up to $5.5 million each in funding for parklands, town squares and main streets.<br \/>\n\u201cAs part of the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program, councils that push forward with assessments of job-creating projects will be incentivised with funding for more, and better, public spaces,\u201d Mr Perrottet said.<br \/>\n\u201cThis program will unlock construction jobs across the State helping combat the economic shocks of COVID-19 while making communities a better place to live.&#8221;<br \/>\nMinister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said the program would create a lasting community benefit across the state.<br \/>\n\u201cIn NSW, we\u2019ve\u00a0already fast-tracked the determination of 67 projects since the pandemic began &#8211; creating\u00a0opportunities for 40,000 jobs, 18,000 homes, 400 hectares of open space and $17.7 billion in economic benefit through\u00a0our Planning System Acceleration Program,\u201d Mr Stokes said.<br \/>\n\u201cNow we\u2019re helping councils to prioritise local planning projects\u00a0that will boost jobs and investment in their communities with a $250 million incentive to create new and improved public spaces.<br \/>\n\u201cWe want councils to think\u00a0big and bold and deliver legacy projects \u2013 new parks, new walking trails, more walkable and inviting streets and open spaces for their communities.\u201d<br \/>\nMr Stokes added that the\u00a0program will drive more efficient local development and support the delivery of the Premier\u2019s Priorities to increase the amount of green, open and public space.<br \/>\n\u201cIt builds on the success of the Planning System Acceleration Program to bring greater benefits to neighbourhoods and streets by providing councils the funds to create new or improved public space, as well as encouraging more efficient planning processes.\u201d<br \/>\nThis new program is only available to the 68 councils currently participating in the e-planning system.<br \/>\nFor more information about the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program\u00a0and to see if your council is eligible visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpie.nsw.gov.au\/publicspaceslegacy\">www.dpie.nsw.gov.au\/publicspaceslegacy<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Councils across NSW will have the opportunity to deliver new and improved public spaces for their local communities thanks to a $250 million program announced today, as part of the NSW Government\u2019s COVID-19 Recovery Plan.
