Waves will become smaller throughout Wednesday.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"City of Newcastle has undertaken a range of maintenance, protection and repair works at Stockton.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/Weather-update\/Stockton-Beach-web.jpg.aspx\" alt=\"Stockton-Beach-web.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nCity of Newcastle has undertaken a range of\u00a0maintenance, protection and repair works\u00a0at Stockton since the\u00a0last east coast low two weeks ago,\u00a0and staff will be monitoring the situation over the coming days.<br \/>\nLord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes\u00a0said\u00a0staff and contractors\u00a0have been\u00a0working around the clock and are doing everything they can to help protect the beach and coastal assets in Stockton.<br \/>\n\u201cCity of Newcastle has had two sand hopper trucks, multiple excavators, cranes and other machinery operating in Stockton since last week\u2019s weather event carrying out a range of maintenance and repair works.<br \/>\n\u201cWe have undertaken significant sandbagging works reinforcing existing sandbags and replacing those that were compromised. One location that experienced significant erosion during the last east coast low was at the end of Griffiths Street and we have replaced a number of sandbags in that location.<br \/>\n\u201cWe have also moved brick rubble that was previously washed onto the beach back closer to the bank and used some of it to reinforce one of the structures at the northern end of the Surf Life Saving Club.\u201d<br \/>\nCity of Newcastle\u00a0asks the community\u00a0to please stay clear of\u00a0coastal areas including Stockton Beach during this period and follow warnings and directional signage where appropriate.\u00a0All beach accessways remain closed and traffic control will be in place at various locations when needed.<br \/>\nTo stay up to date on the weather warnings, please follow the Bureau of Meteorology\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.bom.gov.au<\/a>, and for emergencies, the State Emergency Services at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ses.nsw.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.ses.nsw.gov.au<\/a>\u00a0or phone 13 25 00.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Bureau of Meteorology\u00a0(BOM)\u00a0has\u00a0forecast large and\u00a0powerful surf conditions hazardous to coastal activities\u00a0today and tomorrow.
