{"id":7407,"date":"2020-07-24T04:17:42","date_gmt":"2020-07-24T04:17:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=7407"},"modified":"2020-07-24T04:17:42","modified_gmt":"2020-07-24T04:17:42","slug":"million-dollar-boost-for-covid-affected-sectors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/07\/24\/million-dollar-boost-for-covid-affected-sectors\/","title":{"rendered":"Million-dollar boost for COVID-affected sectors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Events,\u00a0place\u00a0activations and initiatives\u00a0to\u00a0re-energise Newcastle and boost the local economy are now eligible for a record $1.3 million in funding from the City.<br \/>\nApplications open today for\u00a0a\u00a0pool\u00a0of\u00a0$800,000\u00a0under the Special Business Program, which is\u00a0on offer\u00a0for\u00a0the best\u00a0projects\u00a0that\u00a0will\u00a0promote, beautify and develop the City Centre and Darby Street.<br \/>\nApplications are\u00a0also\u00a0open across\u00a0three\u00a0additional\u00a0funding programs\u00a0to\u00a0help activate public spaces, enhance community wellbeing and strengthen the\u00a0city&#8217;s reputation as a destination for tourism, business and events.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TPfy7AZHDRI?rel=0\" width=\"100%\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n\u201cFunding across\u00a0a\u00a0range of sponsorship and grant programs\u00a0will\u00a0support\u00a0industries hardest hit by COVID-19 and ensure that\u00a0as\u00a0restrictions are lifted our city\u00a0is ready,\u201d\u00a0Newcastle\u00a0Lord Mayor\u00a0Nuatali Nelmes\u00a0said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u00a0are\u00a0providing\u00a0financial support for all levels of the community, from\u00a0localised\u00a0suburban landscape\u00a0improvements\u00a0to\u00a0major events\u00a0that\u00a0attract\u00a0thousands of visitors\u00a0to our region\u00a0and inject millions into our economy.<br \/>\n\u201cThese\u00a0funding programs\u00a0are more important than ever in the wake of COVID-19 and its unprecedented economic and social impacts\u00a0on our community.<br \/>\n\u201cCity of Newcastle\u00a0has made a deliberate decision to open these funding opportunities at the same time,\u00a0allowing a more streamlined submission process and\u00a0providing applicants the best opportunity to receive support from one of the programs.<br \/>\n\u201cWhile large events may not be possible right now, opening applications for funding allows\u00a0organisers to get on with planning so that we can\u00a0respond quickly when it\u2019s safe to do so.<br \/>\n\u201cIn the meantime,\u00a0there are many initiatives that may\u00a0stimulate\u00a0the\u00a0City Centre and Darby Street business, support our local\u00a0arts and cultural sector, and promote Newcastle as a destination that we can get on with funding today.<br \/>\n\u201cI look forward to\u00a0seeing innovative proposals\u00a0that will\u00a0enhance community wellbeing, improve the\u00a0city&#8217;s identity and make Newcastle an\u00a0even\u00a0better place in which to live, work, play and invest.\u201d<br \/>\nCity of Newcastle\u2019s\u00a0$280,000\u00a0Event\u00a0Sponsorship Program\u00a0is open\u00a0for\u00a0events\u00a0that promote Newcastle, provide\u00a0tourism-related\u00a0economic benefits,\u00a0and capitalise on the\u00a0city&#8217;s assets.\u00a0Applications\u00a0can be\u00a0made across\u00a0five categories\u00a0depending on the size and significance of the event.<br \/>\nThe Boost Arts and Cultural Grants program will\u00a0provide\u00a0a total of $150,000\u00a0to\u00a0Newcastle\u2019s\u00a0cultural\u00a0community\u00a0by stimulating professional\u00a0artist\u00a0engagement and\u00a0the\u00a0presentation of\u00a0arts and cultural\u00a0works.<br \/>\nA further $60,000 is on offer through the\u00a0Boost your Place Challenge,\u00a0with the\u00a0grants designed\u00a0to encourage younger people to stay connected, create and innovate\u00a0through placemaking projects.<br \/>\nApplications\u00a0for all funding areas\u00a0are open until Wednesday 12 August and\u00a0can be submitted online.
