It will also be the first FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup to be held\u00a0in the southern hemisphere.<br \/>\nMcDonald Jones Stadium is\u00a0expected to be\u00a0a match venue, with Newcastle forming part of Australia\u2019s bid,\u00a0bringing\u00a0thousands\u00a0of visitors to the\u00a0city.<br \/>\nNewcastle\u00a0has also been\u00a0suggested\u00a0to play host to some of the visiting teams, based on\u00a0providing an attractive location for teams to base themselves to stay and train during their world cup campaign.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Women-s-World-Cup-(1).jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/Newcastle-football-fans-set-for-a-win-from-the-202\/Women-s-World-Cup-(1).jpg.aspx\" alt=\"Women-s-World-Cup-(1).jpg\" \/><strong><sup>Emerging Jets Squad players Charli Vogtmann, Kalani Dinnery, Annika Driscoll and Rose Harvey with Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes.<\/sup><\/strong><br \/>\nLord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said the vote had Australian \u2013 and indeed\u00a0Novocastrian\u00a0\u2013 football fans cheering.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a fantastic opportunity for Australia to showcase the Matildas\u2019 and Newcastle Jets W-League talent on home turf and strengthen ties with our neighbours across the\u00a0ditch\u00a0while\u00a0also\u00a0unlocking\u00a0economic benefits and driving\u00a0positive\u00a0social impacts for women and girls,\u201d the Lord Mayor said.<br \/>\n\u201cAustralia\u00a0staged the 2015 AFC Asian Cup,\u00a0which included Newcastle\u00a0hosting\u00a0two group stage matches, a semi-final and third place playoff\u00a0at McDonald Jones Stadium,\u00a0reinforcing\u00a0Newcastle\u2019s\u00a0reputation\u00a0for\u00a0hosting world-class sporting tournaments.<br \/>\n\u201cEven more recently, Newcastle\u00a0hosted the Matildas in the Olympic qualifier against Vietnam at McDonald Jones Stadium on 6 March\u00a0\u00a0in their qualification to the\u00a0upcoming Olympics.<br \/>\n\u201cWinning the 2023 Women\u2019s World Cup bid reaffirms Australia\u2019s ability to attract top-tier sporting codes and I\u00a0can\u2019t wait\u00a0to join fans in the stands here in Newcastle.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Australian-New Zealand bid was rated the most technically proficient in FIFA\u2019s report, ahead of Japan and Colombia.<br \/>\nThe 2023 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup will be held from 10 July to 20 August 2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>City of Newcastle welcomes today\u2019s announcement\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0successful joint\u00a0bid from Australia and New Zealand\u00a0to host the 2023 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup.
