{"id":6341,"date":"2020-05-03T07:32:20","date_gmt":"2020-05-03T07:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=6341"},"modified":"2020-05-03T07:32:20","modified_gmt":"2020-05-03T07:32:20","slug":"city-of-newcastle-makes-thousands-of-online-training-courses-available-free-to-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/05\/03\/city-of-newcastle-makes-thousands-of-online-training-courses-available-free-to-community\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Newcastle makes thousands of online training courses available free to community"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"content-main \">\n<div class=\"bg-container\">\n<div id=\"content-main\" class=\"wrap\">\n<div class=\"second-lvl-wrap\">\n<div class=\"main-content\">\n<div class=\"inner-content event-detail-page\">\n<div class=\"inner-desc\">\nThousands of\u00a0courses are available to Novocastrians to upskill during the COVID-19 pandemic.<br \/>\nNewcastle Libraries members can access\u00a0free of charge\u00a0more than 8,000 e-learning courses and 13,000 video tutorials on topics\u00a0such as resume writing, skills for retraining, and how to start a business, via social networking site LinkedIn\u2019s online learning platform, Lynda.<br \/>\nCourses will be curated for strategic business development opportunities, including digital literacy for small business, online retail, digital marketing and business transformation.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s\u00a0part of City of Newcastle\u2019s\u00a0$5.5 million\u00a0COVID-19 Community and Economic Development Resilience Package, under which a raft of support measures aims to foster community connections in the wake of the pandemic.<br \/>\nThe City has\u00a0also\u00a0expanded\u00a0the libraries\u2019\u00a0subscription\u00a0to\u00a0online tutoring program\u00a0Studiosity.<br \/>\nFor students in Years 3 to 12,\u00a0Studiosity\u00a0provides access to free one-to-one tutoring in mathematics, science and English 24\/7, year-round, through the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/yourlibraryapp.com\/cityofnewcastle?fbclid=IwAR3KV1kYOallevdTYNquacKhJmxBDuevJVq5sPQ7VvQLTiky1S_O8_4VlJQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle Library App<\/a>.<br \/>\nThis is particularly useful for students who are currently home-schooling or engaging in online learning as a result of the coronavirus.<br \/>\nLord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said\u00a0with COVID-19 changing the way we live, work and play, resulting in more downtime at home for many, City of Newcastle had moved to fill the void with practical, accessible tools for personal and professional development.<br \/>\n\u201cWe know that the ability to learn and relearn is a critical skill for the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0Century,\u201d the Lord Mayor said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe benefit of these courses is the upskilling of the local workforce during a period of economic downturn, empowering people to learn and improving community wellbeing.\u201d<br \/>\nBeyond formal education, there is also the opportunity to take up a new hobby, learn a language\u00a0or\u00a0research\u00a0that project you\u2019ve been meaning to start, with several reference and research\u00a0electronic databases, such as\u00a0Mango languages,\u00a0Hobbies and Craft reference centre, Carters Price Guide to Antiques,\u00a0Encyclopaedia\u00a0Britannica,\u00a0and many more\u00a0at\u00a0your fingertips.<br \/>\nThe antidote to writer\u2019s block or the\u00a0value of\u00a0grandma\u2019s antique plate are just a few clicks away.<br \/>\nThese resources are available to all Newcastle Libraries members.<br \/>\nYou can become a member\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nrpl.ent.sirsidynix.net.au\/client\/en_AU\/newcastle\/search\/registration\/$N?pc=HOSTEDWS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online<\/a>\u00a0to gain instant access at home via the free\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/yourlibraryapp.com\/cityofnewcastle?fbclid=IwAR3KV1kYOallevdTYNquacKhJmxBDuevJVq5sPQ7VvQLTiky1S_O8_4VlJQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle Library App<\/a>\u00a0or the website,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/Library\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/Library<\/a>.
