{"id":5955,"date":"2020-04-10T02:30:48","date_gmt":"2020-04-10T02:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=5955"},"modified":"2020-04-10T02:30:48","modified_gmt":"2020-04-10T02:30:48","slug":"grants-program-enables-community-sector-to-give-a-hand-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/04\/10\/grants-program-enables-community-sector-to-give-a-hand-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Grants program enables community sector to give a hand up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>City of Newcastle has made available grants of up to $30,000 to non-government organisations, not-for-profits, charities and for-profit service\u00a0providers that directly support community health and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic.<br \/>\nThe\u00a0Boost Our City Community Sector Grants, which opened on\u00a0Wednesday, unlock immediate cashflow for eligible projects delivered by organisations already well positioned to provide practical support to those who need it most.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"CropCommunity-Grants-Program-2-(1).jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/Grants-program-enables-community-sector-to-give-a\/CropCommunity-Grants-Program-2-(1).jpg.aspx\" alt=\"CropCommunity-Grants-Program-2-(1).jpg\" \/>The grants program sits under phase one of the COVID-19 Community and Economic Development Resilience Package, through which the City has pledged $650,000 of financial and in-kind support to the community sector to respond to needs arising from COVID-19.<br \/>\nLord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said the grants would enable\u00a0organisations\u00a0to\u00a0develop creative, innovative solutions to COVID-19 challenges faced by the most vulnerable and emerging at-risk groups\u00a0in our community.<br \/>\n\u201cThe aim of our community grants program is to scale and fit the needs identified by the community sector to\u00a0soften\u00a0the social impact of COVID-19,\u201d the Lord Mayor said.<br \/>\n\u201cIt could make all the difference,\u00a0for instance, to someone with complex health needs but limited access to technology to ensure continuity of\u00a0care, or to someone who has lost their job or is struggling with mental\u00a0health\u00a0and turns to a charity or service provider for the first time.<br \/>\n\u201cThe effects of this pandemic\u00a0will be far-reaching and felt for some time to come.\u201d<br \/>\nThe City has already assisted in the first wave of impact felt by the pandemic, providing urgent Rapid Response Funding to existing service providers, such as\u00a0OzHarvest,\u00a0to cope with increased demand\u00a0for food, welfare, supported living, community transport and more.<br \/>\nApplications for Boost Our\u00a0City\u00a0Community Sector Grants are open until\u00a030 June, at which point Council will consider ongoing need under phase two of the package.<br \/>\nGrants\u00a0of between\u00a0$2,000 and $30,000\u00a0are available\u00a0for\u00a0projects that comply\u00a0with Federal Government guidelines and NSW Health advice regarding COVID-19.<br \/>\nApplication forms and information\u00a0on\u00a0how to apply are available\u00a0via\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>.<br \/>\nFor further to support, email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:covidresilience@ncc.nsw.gov.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">covidresilience@ncc.nsw.gov.au<\/a>\u00a0or phone 4974 2000 to speak with a City of Newcastle staff member.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>City of Newcastle has made available grants of up to $30,000 to non-government organisations, not-for-profits, charities and for-profit service\u00a0providers that directly support community health and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
