{"id":5868,"date":"2020-04-06T15:50:11","date_gmt":"2020-04-06T15:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=5868"},"modified":"2020-04-06T15:50:11","modified_gmt":"2020-04-06T15:50:11","slug":"funding-to-combat-isolation-for-seniors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/04\/06\/funding-to-combat-isolation-for-seniors\/","title":{"rendered":"FUNDING TO COMBAT ISOLATION FOR SENIORS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NSW seniors at risk of social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic will be the focus of $600,000 in funding to keep our older community connected.<br \/>\nActing Minister for Seniors Geoff Lee urged eligible organisations to apply for the grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.<br \/>\n\u201cWhile more seniors are staying at home to protect their health, we do not want to create an epidemic of loneliness in our community,\u201d Mr Lee said.<br \/>\n\u201cOur most vulnerable age groups are being advised to follow social distancing rules, so face to face catch-ups and normal daily routines have become difficult.\u201d<br \/>\nApplications for the\u00a0<em>Combatting Social Isolation for Seniors During COVID-19<\/em>\u00a0grants program are now open until April 26.<br \/>\n\u201cWe want to fund innovative ideas to help seniors keep in touch by utilising phone calls, online platforms or other methods of communication,\u201d said Mr Lee.<br \/>\n\u201cWith so many seniors now missing their regular social activities, we want to encourage programs which foster inclusion and encourage positive social outcomes.\u201d<br \/>\nSocial inclusion is a key priority of the NSW Ageing Strategy and is part of the NSW Government\u2019s key commitment to meet the needs of our ageing population.<br \/>\nFor more information:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcj.nsw.gov.au\/combatting-social-isolation-for-seniors\">www.dcj.nsw.gov.au\/combatting-social-isolation-for-seniors<\/a><br \/>\nSeniors are urged to get the latest COVID-19 information at:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.health.nsw.gov.au\/\">www.health.nsw.gov.au<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NSW seniors at risk of social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic will be the focus of $600,000 in funding to keep our older community connected.
