Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) today called for submissions on an application to permit a new processing aid.
\nChief Executive Officer Mark Booth said the applicant was seeking to use the processing aid (an enzyme) to produce syrups.
\n\u201cThis particular enzyme (lysophospholipase) breaks down lysophospholipids in starch, which effect the filtration rate and clarity of the starch hydrolysates (syrups),” Mr Booth said.
\n\u201cFSANZ has conducted a thorough safety assessment and concluded there are no public health or safety issues associated with the use of this enzyme to produce syrups.”
\nThe period for comment closes at 6pm (Canberra time)\u00a018 December\u00a02018.
