{"id":4924,"date":"2020-01-22T07:25:24","date_gmt":"2020-01-22T07:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=4924"},"modified":"2020-01-22T07:25:24","modified_gmt":"2020-01-22T07:25:24","slug":"damning-ndis-report-prompts-call-for-newcastle-hearing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/01\/22\/damning-ndis-report-prompts-call-for-newcastle-hearing\/","title":{"rendered":"DAMNING NDIS REPORT PROMPTS CALL FOR NEWCASTLE HEARING"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The release of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dss.gov.au\/disability-and-carers-programs-services-for-people-with-disability-national-disability-insurance-scheme\/2019-review-of-the-ndis-act-and-the-new-ndis-participant-service-guarantee\">scathing report<\/a>\u00a0into the NDIS has prompted Federal Member for Newcastle Sharon Claydon to write a letter\u00a0to request that a hearing of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/parliamentary_business\/committees\/joint\/national_disability_insurance_scheme\">Parliamentary NDIS committee<\/a>\u00a0be held in Newcastle.<br \/>\nMs Claydon said the independent report painted a picture of a system in crisis.<br \/>\n\u201cThis confirms everything my constituents have been telling me about an under-resourced system plagued with delays and inconsistency and gravely lacking in transparency,\u201d Ms Claydon said.<br \/>\n\u201cMany people in our community have also seen their NDIS plans slashed for no good reason. Regretfully, the situation seems to be getting worse with each passing year.\u201d<br \/>\nMs Claydon said the Liberals have \u2018utterly neglected\u2019 the NDIS in the six years they have been its custodians.<br \/>\n\u201cThe fact that that 1200 Australians died while waiting for an NDIS support package is damning evidence of this Government\u2019s neglect,\u201d Ms Claydon said.<br \/>\n\u201cBut in the face of the obvious and desperate need for proper resourcing, the Morrison Government instead choose to rip a further $4.6 billion out of the NDIS to prop up their ailing budget.
