{"id":4896,"date":"2020-01-19T01:31:49","date_gmt":"2020-01-19T01:31:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=4896"},"modified":"2020-01-19T01:31:49","modified_gmt":"2020-01-19T01:31:49","slug":"community-invited-to-farewell-jill-emberson-at-memorial-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2020\/01\/19\/community-invited-to-farewell-jill-emberson-at-memorial-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Community invited to farewell Jill Emberson at memorial service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>City of Newcastle is inviting\u00a0community\u00a0to attend a\u00a0public\u00a0memorial\u00a0service for Jill Emberson on Thursday 23 January at Newcastle City Hall.<br \/>\nThe 10am service will\u00a0celebrate\u00a0the\u00a0life\u00a0of the\u00a0prominent\u00a0journalist,\u00a0Pink Meets Teal\u00a0founder\u00a0and\u00a02019\u00a0Newcastle\u00a0Citizen of the Year,\u00a0who\u00a0passed in December after a\u00a0long battle\u00a0with\u00a0ovarian\u00a0cancer.<br \/>\nJill was a fearless campaigner for\u00a0ovarian\u00a0cancer research and awareness and played a pivotal role in the Federal Government&#8217;s landmark $20 million research funding announcement in 2019.<br \/>\nLord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said that while\u00a0Jill\u2019s\u00a0life was\u00a0cut short, her impact on this world and in the lives of others was immense and\u00a0inspiring.<br \/>\n\u201cJill touched the lives of countless people in our community as a family member, friend, through her work\u00a0as a journalist\u00a0and\u00a0as a tenacious\u00a0campaigner for\u00a0ovarian cancer research.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s fitting that Jill\u2019s life is celebrated by the community and that\u00a0everyone has\u00a0the\u00a0opportunity to pay tribute to the wonderful contribution she made\u00a0to our city.<br \/>\n\u201cJill was an exemplary Citizen of the Year for\u00a0Newcastle. She was\u00a0incredibly generous with her time, despite knowing her cancer was terminal.
