{"id":4528,"date":"2019-12-06T10:45:16","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T10:45:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=4528"},"modified":"2019-12-06T10:45:16","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T10:45:16","slug":"harbour-foreshore-precinct-masterplan-consultation-to-begin-in-early-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/12\/06\/harbour-foreshore-precinct-masterplan-consultation-to-begin-in-early-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Harbour Foreshore Precinct Masterplan consultation to begin in early 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>City of Newcastle will commence community engagement in the new year to develop a masterplan for the Harbour Foreshore Precinct, including an inclusive, regional level playground, water-themed play space and improved cycle amenities along Wharf Road.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"FSP-(1).JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/Harbour-Foreshore-Precinct-Masterplan-consultation\/FSP-(1).JPG.aspx\" alt=\"FSP-(1).JPG\" \/>The precinct masterplan includes prime community spaces east from Merewether Street and includes the Harbourfront parkland and Joy Cummings Promenade stretching along Wharf Road, former rail sheds, and Foreshore Park\u2019s amphitheatre and parkland near Nobbys Beach.<br \/>\nLord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said the Foreshore Precinct Masterplan was the next step in revitalising the space as part of the Foreshore Plan of Management, and will be developed in close consultation with the community over the next 12-18 months.<br \/>\n&#8220;The community will be involved throughout the process to ensure what is delivered meets community expectations for this important community space,\u201d the Lord Mayor said.<br \/>\n\u201cForeshore Park and the surrounding harbour precinct is a key attraction among locals and visitors and has important links to the City\u2019s history, so it\u2019s important that people have the opportunity to have their say from the outset.<br \/>\n\u201cAs Newcastle continues to evolve as a world-class destination, we must continue to invest in quality, accessible public facilities and event spaces within the heart of the city.<br \/>\n\u201cWe must maintain this area as a thriving destination, particularly in light of the accessibility upgrades to Nobbys Beach and Bathers Way.\u201d<br \/>\nStakeholder engagement and community consultation will be key in the successful delivery of the masterplan project. CN will work with interest groups, schools, residents and local businesses to provide valuable input into the design of the project<br \/>\n\u201cA design reference group will also be\u00a0established\u00a0to provide input\u00a0around\u00a0technical elements of the\u00a0playground\u00a0and water-themed play\u00a0space, as well as other important features including pedestrian and cylcleway connections and\u00a0heritage aspects.<br \/>\nThe City has received grant funding from\u00a0<em>Variety \u2013 the Children\u2019s Charity<\/em>, to help fund the design of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.variety.org.au\/nsw\/variety-livvis-place\/\">\u2018Livvi\u2019s Place\u2019<\/a>\u00a0accessible playground for kids of all ages and all abilities.
