{"id":4360,"date":"2019-11-25T09:15:57","date_gmt":"2019-11-25T09:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=4360"},"modified":"2019-11-25T09:15:57","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T09:15:57","slug":"quality-is-the-star-in-early-childhood-rating-system-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/11\/25\/quality-is-the-star-in-early-childhood-rating-system-2\/","title":{"rendered":"QUALITY IS THE STAR IN EARLY CHILDHOOD RATING SYSTEM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A clearer and simpler rating system for early childhood services was announced today, making it easier for parents to understand how their service rates under the National Quality Framework (NQF).<br \/>\nMinister for Education and Early Childhood Learning Sarah Mitchell said the change is something both parents and services have been calling for.<br \/>\n\u201cAll providers will be required to display their National Quality Standard (NQS) rating in the format of four stars that correlate to their NQS rating level,\u201d Ms Mitchell said.<br \/>\n\u201cServices will display the stars where parents can see them clearly, and will be requested to provide more detailed rating information to parents and families at enrolment from July 1, 2020.<br \/>\n\u201cA fifth star can be obtained through an additional application to Australian Children\u2019s Education and Care Quality Authority.<br \/>\n\u201cWe have worked with the sector and families to find a better way for promoting and understanding the quality ratings, and have set aside a further $8 million to support providers to improve the quality of their services, building on the $5 million already invested.<br \/>\n\u201cEnsuring parents and carers understand the rating of their early childhood service is essential for families, and also for maintaining and improving quality.\u201d<br \/>\nEarly Childhood Australia CEO Samantha Page said the Quality Ratings Guide will be a great way for families to start a conversation with services.<br \/>\n\u201cParents should play an active role in communicating with services about all aspects of quality, and the star graphic invites them to learn more about quality improvement,\u201d Ms Page said.<br \/>\n\u201cIt also gives services the opportunity to pro-actively engage and focus on quality as an ongoing priority.\u201d<br \/>\nThe new four star format will display a service\u2019s NQF rating as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exceeding NQS = 4 stars<\/li>\n<li>Meeting NQS = 3 stars<\/li>\n<li>Working towards NQS = 2 stars<\/li>\n<li>Significant Improvement Required = 1 star<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information on the new Stars system visit the website:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/education.nsw.gov.au\/early-childhood-quality\">https:\/\/education.nsw.gov.au\/early-childhood-quality<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A clearer and simpler rating system for early childhood services was announced today, making it easier for parents to understand how their service rates under the National Quality Framework (NQF).
