{"id":4330,"date":"2019-11-22T01:34:51","date_gmt":"2019-11-22T01:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=4330"},"modified":"2019-11-22T01:34:51","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T01:34:51","slug":"replacement-identity-documents-for-people-affected-by-bushfires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/11\/22\/replacement-identity-documents-for-people-affected-by-bushfires\/","title":{"rendered":"REPLACEMENT IDENTITY DOCUMENTS FOR PEOPLE AFFECTED BY BUSHFIRES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People who lose important identity documents in the bushfires can have them replaced for free to help them recover as quickly as possible, Attorney General Mark Speakman and Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello announced today.<br \/>\n\u201cThe fire emergency has wreaked untold havoc on many people\u2019s lives and we want them to be able to get back on their feet with a minimum of fuss,\u201d Mr Speakman said.<br \/>\n\u201cAnyone who has lost paperwork such as a birth certificate or marriage certificate can apply to have them replaced at no cost as a priority.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThe NSW Registry of Births, Deaths &amp; Marriages (BDM) can assist people who have lost documents in the fire to quickly re-establish their identity,\u201d Mr Dominello said.<br \/>\n\u201cFor those who were born or married interstate, BDM will coordinate with other Australian State and Territory registries to obtain replacement certificates.\u201d<br \/>\nThose affected can visit their nearest Service NSW\u00a0 where the team will assist them in applying for their official certificates.<br \/>\nCustomers requiring a new driver\u2019s licence will be issued with an interim licence on the spot allowing them to get back on the road immediately, with the new licence card being delivered 7 to 10 days after the transaction.<br \/>\nService NSW\u2019s Mobile Service Centres have visited bushfire affected communities to assist customers with government transactions, including replacement identity documents.<br \/>\n<strong>Useful contacts:<\/strong><br \/>\nPlease visit Service\u00a0NSW website for resources on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.service.nsw.gov.au\/life-events\/natural-disasters\/dealing-bushfire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dealing with bushfire<\/a>.
