It\u2019s sure to become\u00a0a major drawcard, bringing families into the city.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cAs we get closer to Christmas,\u00a0it will be home to carollers and maybe even visits from Santa, creating family-friendly fun for visitors to the city centre.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Christmas tree\u00a0has been\u00a0assembled by a team of six\u00a0people,\u00a0after arriving\u00a0in four pieces in addition to the base and\u00a0a\u00a0star to be placed on top.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Installed on the former Queens Wharf Tower site, it will be visible from kilometres away across the harbour and make a welcoming sight for cruise ship passengers as they\u00a0enter the port.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The lights will be switched on for the first time Sunday night at 8pm.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The tree will be\u00a0visible\u00a0until 7 January and\u00a0will\u00a0be installed in the city centre annually over the next eight years.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The\u00a0city centre is currently subject to traffic changes due to the Newcastle 500 Supercars, so light rail is the best option as it stops adjacent to the Christmas Tree site.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Visit\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.livetraffic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>livetraffic.com<\/u><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0or plan your trip with\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newcastletransport.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>newcastletransport.info\/<\/u><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>City of Newcastle has installed an 11-metre-tall Christmas tree at Queens Wharf today\u00a0to spread festive cheer and activate the city centre over the holiday season.\u00a0 Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes at this morning&#8217;s installation.
