Long defined by Newcastle Harbour and influenced by the\u00a0harsh prosperity\u00a0of a working port, Carrington is\u00a0now\u00a0one of Newcastle\u2019s most desirable\u00a0city neighbourhoods.<br \/>\nCarrington\u00a0has undergone significant economic and urban transformation and despite these changes, has retained its unique personality and its generous and distinctive open spaces.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"CarringtonGSMP2-(1).jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/Have-your-say-on-Carrington%E2%80%99s-green-space-planning\/CarringtonGSMP2-(1).jpg.aspx\" alt=\"CarringtonGSMP2-(1).jpg\" \/><br \/>\nIt\u2019s these greenspaces and public domain that the City of Newcastle is seeking community feedback on as part of the public exhibition\u00a0of the Carrington Greenspace Masterplan.<br \/>\nA community\u00a0drop in\u00a0session will be hosted by\u00a0City of Newcastle\u00a0at\u00a0Carrington Community\u00a0Centre\u00a0on Saturday\u00a016\u00a0November\u00a0between 10.30am-12.30pm\u00a0allowing residents the perfect opportunity to view the plan and to give feedback.<br \/>\nCity of Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes encourages people who live and work in Carrington to engage\u00a0with the\u00a0community consultation\u00a0session\u00a0to ensure\u00a0their\u00a0valuable\u00a0feedback is received.<br \/>\n\u201cWe want the Carrington community\u00a0to\u00a0feel a sense of ownership of the master plan and\u00a0to\u00a0see opportunities to work together\u00a0with\u00a0the City\u00a0and other landowners to achieve its aims.<br \/>\n\u201cThis plan lays out the framework for improvement opportunities in relation to Carrington\u2019s greenspaces, and while works identified will need a collaborative funding approach, having a plan that is built upon the needs and priorities of the community will assist in securing funding to deliver specific initiatives in the future.<br \/>\n\u201cAfter early community consultation, the addition of large shade trees in parks, more green cover on street verges and improved lighting along the foreshore are some of the features Carrington residents would like incorporated into the suburb.<br \/>\n\u201cNot only are we hoping to improve the amenity and livability of the suburb\u00a0by increasing green spaces\u00a0we can\u00a0create a cooler, more comfortable town\u00a0centre\u00a0in the warmer months.\u201d<br \/>\nThis masterplan sets the future direction for Carrington Greenspaces, providing innovative and active spaces for all members of the community to enjoy.<br \/>\nThe community consultation process runs until\u00a022 December.<br \/>\nIf you are unable to attend Saturday\u2019s drop-in session, check out the plans online at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/exhibition\">www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/exhibition<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are few neighbourhoods in Newcastle as\u00a0storied\u00a0and distinct as Carrington.
