{"id":41076,"date":"2026-10-04T18:22:18","date_gmt":"2026-10-04T07:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=41076"},"modified":"2026-10-04T18:22:18","modified_gmt":"2026-10-04T07:22:18","slug":"inaugural-australia-japan-leadership-dialogue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/10\/04\/inaugural-australia-japan-leadership-dialogue\/","title":{"rendered":"Inaugural Australia-Japan Leadership Dialogue"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next week the inaugural Australia-Japan Leadership Dialogue will bring together leaders from government, business, academia and civil society to discuss opportunities for the future of one of Australia&#8217;s most important bilateral relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Announced by Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Takaichi at the Australia-Japan Annual Leaders&#8217; Meeting in May, the Dialogue will focus on <em>Opportunities for a Resilient Future: Regional Security, Economic Security and Energy Security,<\/em> reflecting the shared interests and strategic challenges facing Australia and Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Australian delegation brings together distinguished leaders and experts whose diverse backgrounds and expertise will help shape discussions on the future of the bilateral relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australia&#8217;s participants will be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stephen Smith (Chair), Former Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jan Adams (ex officio), Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Andrew Shearer (ex officio), Ambassador to Japan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shiro Armstrong, Professor of Economics, Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Michaela Browning, Senior Advisor, Brunswick Group<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elizabeth Cox, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, AirTrunk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Debra Hazelton, Incoming President, Australia-Japan Business Cooperation Committee; Chair, Export Finance Australia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Phil Morle, Partner, Main Sequence Ventures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grant Wilson, Executive Chairman, Tivan Limited<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ben Wyatt, Senior Independent Director, Rio Tinto Limited, Non-Executive Director of Woodside Energy Group Ltd<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Dialogue is co-hosted by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Japan&#8217;s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
