These changes double-tap small business with higher costs\u201d, said Shadow Treasurer, Tim Wilson.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Wilson\u2019s comments come in the wake of the credit card surcharge \u201cban\u201d commencing and the ATO revealing it will be sneaking in an announcement today that they\u2019re no longer accepting credit card payments, rather than absorb the costs like every small business will have to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSmall business is being double \u2018tapped\u2019 by the Albanese government when there\u2019s already near record insolvencies, business closures and collapses in profitability\u201d, Mr Wilson said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cToday the Albanese government is going to double \u2018tap\u2019 the local caf\u00e9, the community pharmacy and the tradie, not the big supermarkets who get preferential terms from the banks\u201d, Mr Wilson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe ATO says it wouldn&#8217;t be appropriate to pass merchant fees on to the community, yet that is exactly what the government is forcing every small business in the country to do. There is one rule for Canberra and another rule for the corner store\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe ATO sat on this until the very morning the ban started. If the government&#8217;s own tax collector can&#8217;t absorb the cost, how does the Treasurer expect a family-run cafe to?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has warned the ban \u201cwill not save Australians from the cost of transaction; it is just pushing up prices and hurting small business\u201d, with ACCI Chief Executive Andrew McKellar labelling the ATO&#8217;s decision \u201cutter hypocrisy\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Wilson said, \u201cAustralia needs a stand-up economy, not a sit-down economy, where small businesses are backed, not billed.
