The driver of a car that allegedly struck ten people in the state\u2019s Hunter region has been charged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About 9.30am today (Saturday 3 October 2026), emergency services were called to Newcastle Link Road, at the Transfield Drive roundabout, Wallsend, following reports a vehicle had allegedly struck multiple people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The persons struck were part of a large crowd that were in attendance to support a local sporting team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District attended, alongside Traffic and Highway Patrol officers and NSW Ambulance paramedics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A crime scene was established that was later examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vehicle was seized by police and will undergo forensic examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ten people were injured and were treated on the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A five-year-old girl remains in a critical but now stable condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 67-year-old man who was initially in a critical condition is currently reported to be in a serious but stable condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Four other people \u2013 a second 5-year-old girl, a 2-year-old girl, a 31-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man \u2013 remain hospitalized in stable conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three men \u2013 aged 24, 25 and 27 \u2013 along with a 63-year-old woman have since been discharged from hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The P1 Provisional licence holder of the vehicle \u2013 an 18-year-old man \u2013 was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two male passengers in the vehicle \u2013 aged 18 and 19 \u2013 were not injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The driver was later released from hospital and taken to a police station where he was charged with nine offences including:
3 x Dangerous driving occ GBH- drive manner dangerous
3 x Negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm)
3 x Cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has been refused bail to appear at Bail Division \u2013 Court 2 tomorrow (Sunday 4 October 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man\u2019s licence has also been suspended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
