{"id":41014,"date":"2026-10-03T19:39:54","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T09:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=41014"},"modified":"2026-10-03T19:39:54","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T09:39:54","slug":"ten-people-injured-after-being-struck-by-car-driver-arrested-newcastle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/10\/03\/ten-people-injured-after-being-struck-by-car-driver-arrested-newcastle\/","title":{"rendered":"Ten people injured after being struck by car, driver arrested \u2013 Newcastle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ten people have been injured after being struck by a vehicle near Wallsend this morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About 9.30am today (Saturday 3 October 2026), emergency services were called to Newcastle Link Road, at the Transfield Drive roundabout, following reports a vehicle had struck multiple people in a crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District attended, alongside Traffic and Highway Patrol officers and NSW Ambulance paramedics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ten people were injured and were treated on the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two people &#8211; a five-year-old girl and a 67-year-old man &#8211; remain in a critical condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other eight people all remain in a stable condition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A second five-year-old girl<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A two-year-old girl<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 31-year-old woman<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 48-year-old man<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 24-year-old man<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 63-year-old woman<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 25-year-old man<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 57-year-old man<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The p-plate driver of the vehicle \u2013 an 18-year-old man \u2013 was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with initial inquiries indicating it is not believed to be terror related.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Newcastle Link Road has been closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for some time while inquiries continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police thank the community for their patience, cooperation and assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ten people have been injured after being struck by a vehicle near Wallsend this morning.
