{"id":40821,"date":"2026-09-12T16:24:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-12T06:24:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=40821"},"modified":"2026-09-12T16:24:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-12T06:24:10","slug":"labors-economy-pushing-women-and-young-aussies-into-second-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/09\/12\/labors-economy-pushing-women-and-young-aussies-into-second-jobs\/","title":{"rendered":"Labor\u2019s economy pushing women and young Aussies into second jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under Labor, the number of Australians working more than one job has passed one million for the first time on record, and it is women and young Australians who are having to work the hardest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1,049,100 Australians worked more than one job in the June quarter 2026 and the multiple job-holding rate has climbed to the highest share on record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rate of women working more than one job has hit the highest level ever recorded, with new ABS figures released today showing one in thirteen employed women now hold multiple jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than one-in-nine workers aged 20-to-24 hold more than one job, also a record. The biggest increase since the change of government has been among 25-34 year olds, the generation facing the steepest rents and first mortgages in the aftermath of Labor\u2019s disastrous economic management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the Coalition left office, 151,600 more Australians are working more than one job, an increase of 16.9 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Labour Account data released last week shows secondary jobs now make up a record 7.1 per cent of all filled jobs, and that 57 per cent of employment growth under Labor has been in the non-market sector of public administration, education and health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">the Deputy Leader, Senator Jane Hume:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cUnder Labor, Australians are working harder than ever just to go backwards.
