Four of the creative teams are receiving Screen Australia funding for the first time, including producers Karen Colston and Robbie Miles who will create the six-part parody\u00a0<em>Sarah\u2019s Channel<\/em>\u00a0for ABC iview.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm5307166\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Claudia O\u2019Doherty<\/a>\u00a0(Amy Schumer\u2019s\u00a0<em>Trainwreck<\/em>, Netflix\u2019s\u00a0<em>Love<\/em>) will star in the title role.<\/p>\n<p><em>Sarah\u2019s Channel<\/em>\u00a0follows beauty vlogger Sarah who discovers she\u2019s been reanimated after an apocalypse. Live performer and theatre playwright\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/yellowcreativemanagement.com\/nick-coyle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nick Coyle<\/a>\u00a0will make the jump to screen to write\/direct, fresh off the back of his hit play\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/griffintheatre.com.au\/whats-on\/the-feather-in-the-web\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Feather in the Web<\/em><\/a>.<br \/>\n\u201cI&#8217;m thrilled (and surprised) that my idea of a Beauty Vlogger uploading videos in a post-apocalyptic world has been green-lit, and excited to be collaborating with such a fantastic team to bring it to life,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Coyle<\/strong>. \u201cThere is so much comedy to mine in the online influencer world, and so many pre-existing fans who I hope will love this new take on the genre.\u201d<br \/>\nProducer\u00a0<strong>Karen Colston<\/strong>\u00a0of Yellow Creative Management added, \u201cWe\u2019re so pleased Nick\u2019s unique voice will be seen by a wider audience than those lucky enough to have caught his brilliant theatre work, and we hope to create a pathway to screen for other stage practitioners. The concept and execution of\u00a0<em>Sarah\u2019s Channel<\/em>\u00a0is inextricably linked to the internet, so it is uniquely suited to the online series format.\u201d<br \/>\nEmmy-award winning Queensland studio Ludo are also creating a series for the ABC, satirising the web life-coach industry in the six-part comedy\u00a0<em>Content<\/em>. Completion funding has been provided to the emerging creators behind comedies\u00a0<em>How To Know If You\u2019re Dating A Narcissist<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Single Ladies<\/em>, plus family drama\u00a0<em>Time &amp; Place<\/em>.<br \/>\n\u201cWe have a healthy appetite for creative risk in Online Production, and want to support new creators who are trying out bold concepts,\u201d said Screen Australia Investment Manager\u00a0<strong>Lee Naimo<\/strong>. \u201cI\u2019m particularly pleased to see the majority of projects in this slate have female central characters, and female directors.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cAs we\u2019ve seen most recently with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.screenaustralia.gov.au\/the-screen-guide\/t\/superwog-2018\/36877?stxt=superwog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Superwog<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.screenaustralia.gov.au\/the-screen-guide\/t\/sheilas-2018\/35269\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Sheilas<\/em><\/a>, online content can well and truly compete with traditional mediums in terms of production values and audience share. Now is the time for emerging creators to be taking advantage of Screen Australia\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.screenaustralia.gov.au\/sa\/media-centre\/news\/2018\/07-02-historic-change-story-development-guidelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revised Development funding<\/a>\u00a0opportunities to refine their concepts, and get in touch with us in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.screenaustralia.gov.au\/online\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Online Production<\/a>\u00a0to discuss their projects.\u201d<br \/>\nPlease find funded project blocklines below.<\/p>\n<h2>ONLINE FUNDING<\/h2>\n<p>Since 2008, Screen Australia has funded more than 200 online projects, collectively amassing over 290 million views on YouTube alone.<br \/>\nIn 2017\/18, Screen Australia provided $3.479m in production funding to online dramas. Recipients included Theo and Nathan Saidden for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL0M6rJJZbZTvMuDu545iyF1uAOfu-4op6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Superwog\u00a0<\/em>series<\/a>, which launched in October 2018. The first three episodes of the comedy all trended #1 on YouTube, and have already amassed over ten million views.<br \/>\nThe agency also provided near $600k in online talent and sector development in 2017\/18, including the hugely popular Google Skip Ahead and ABC Fresh Blood initiatives.<br \/>\nScreen Australia invests in online documentaries and online works from Indigenous creators through additional funding programs.<br \/>\nFour of the five titles nominated for the 2018 AACTA for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aacta.org\/aacta-awards\/winners-and-nominees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Best Online Video or Series\u2019<\/a>\u00a0were Screen Australia funded.<\/p>\n<h2>ONLINE CONTENT<\/h2>\n<p>Screen Australia\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.screenaustralia.gov.au\/sa\/media-centre\/news\/2018\/10-30-drama-report-2017-18-home-grown-expenditure\">Drama Report<\/a>\u00a0detailed that the budgets and expenditure for Australian online dramas* more than tripled in 2017\/18 to $53 million.
