{"id":40381,"date":"2026-08-13T18:26:47","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T08:26:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=40381"},"modified":"2026-08-13T18:26:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T08:26:47","slug":"more-than-700-social-and-affordable-homes-unlocked-across-sydney-through-the-housing-australia-future-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/08\/13\/more-than-700-social-and-affordable-homes-unlocked-across-sydney-through-the-housing-australia-future-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"More than 700 social and affordable homes unlocked across Sydney through the Housing Australia Future Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF) is continuing to deliver with almost 700 new social and affordable homes are on the way for Sydney as five housing projects receive planning approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s part of the Albanese and Minns Governments&#8217; joint effort to tackle the housing crisis by building more homes through the largest investment in social and affordable housing in a generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These five HAFF projects will almost quadruple the number of homes that previously existed on the sites, with more than 80 per cent of those homes being social and affordable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Caringbah\u00a0<\/strong>project will deliver 164 social and affordable homes, replacing 38 dwellings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Belmore\u00a0<\/strong>project will deliver 145 social and affordable homes, replacing 24 dwellings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Punchbowl<\/strong>\u00a0project will deliver 114 social homes, replacing 26 dwellings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Hillsdale\u00a0<\/strong>project will deliver 179 social homes, replacing 39 dwellings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Pagewood<\/strong>\u00a0project will deliver 224 homes, including 84 social homes and 140 private market homes, replacing 82 dwellings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The projects are being delivered in partnership between Homes NSW and community housing providers who will provide long-term management of the new homes. BaptistCare will build and manage the developments in Caringbah and Belmore, and Link Wentworth in Punchbowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traders In Purple will deliver the Pagewood site, while Coplex will deliver Hillsdale. Homes NSW will procure and appoint a CHP for both these sites at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Demolition on all developments is expected to commence before the end of the year, with construction due to begin mid-2027. Together, it\u2019s anticipated the projects will support around 2,000 construction jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funding secured through the second round of the HAFF program is helping Homes NSW to supercharge the delivery of more than 2,500 new homes across 14 developments. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Twelve projects are located across Greater Sydney, with regional projects also planned for Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Construction has already commenced on two developments in Villawood and Padstow, with further projects progressing through planning, design and procurement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These homes are some of the 55,000 social and affordable homes being delivered by the Albanese Labor Government across the nation \u2013 including more than 6,500 in NSW with many more to come in the next round of the HAFF program. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the $6.6 billion Building Homes for NSW program, the Minns Labor Government is building homes at scale and restoring public housing as a core part of the housing system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is aboutthe Australian and NSW Governments working together to increase the supply of social and affordable housing, while helping address housing needs and ensuring people can live close to jobs, transport and services across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A full list of projects from Round 2 of the HAFF can be found&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsw.gov.au\/housing-and-construction\/social-affordable\/housing-providers\/housing-australia-future-fund\">here<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Federal Minister for Housing and Homelessness Clare O\u2019Neil:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re almost quadrupling the number of homes across these sites to help more Sydney-siders who need it and increase housing supply across the board. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is the Housing Australia Future Fund delivering more homes, at scale, helping to improve housing supply across the board. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Albanese and Minns Labor governments are turning massive ambition into real delivery on the ground, to build more homes and reduce housing pressures.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese approvals are yet another example of how the planning system is helping deliver the homes our communities need most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese developments will replace ageing housing with modern, well-designed homes, delivering almost 4 times the number of dwellings currently on these sites\u2013 and importantly, increasing the amount of social and affordable homes on each site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Minister for Housing and Homelessness Rose Jackson:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is the stuff that gets me excited \u2013 five massive projects now approved to deliver almost 700 new social and affordable homes for people who need them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe know the housing crisis is putting enormous pressure on people and families across the state, which is why we\u2019re getting on with the job of building more homes and giving more people access to safe and secure housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBy partnering with the Albanese Labor Government and our Community Housing partners, we\u2019re proving that with political will and real investment, you can actually supercharge housing delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BaptistCare CEO Charles Moore:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Everyday we see the difference safe and affordable housing can make.
