{"id":39577,"date":"2026-06-20T17:48:58","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T07:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=39577"},"modified":"2026-06-20T17:48:58","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T07:48:58","slug":"australia-boosts-support-for-ukraines-defence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/06\/20\/australia-boosts-support-for-ukraines-defence\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia boosts support for Ukraine&#8217;s defence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Albanese Government will provide an additional $100 million in assistance to Ukraine for critical military equipment, as the country continues its fight against Russia\u2019s&nbsp;unjustified and unprovoked&nbsp;invasion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following a commitment of $50 million to the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List&nbsp;(PURL)&nbsp;in December last year, Australia will make two additional $50 million contributions over the next 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In partnership with NATO, Australia is supporting Ukraine to secure the critical military equipment and capabilities it needs to defend itself, including air defence capabilities and munitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This lasting commitment brings Australia\u2019s overall support for Ukraine to over $1.8 billion, including more than $1.6 billion in military assistance since the start of the conflict.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australia continues to participate in the Coalition of the Willing, a group of more than 35 countries strengthening support for Ukraine to see a just and lasting peace on its terms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Australian Defence Force also continues to train Armed Forces of Ukraine personnel under Operation Kudu, with training now being conducted in Poland under the Norwegian\u2011led multinational Operation Legio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australia remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Deputy Prime Minister, Richard Marles:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat happens in Ukraine matters here in the Indo-Pacific, which is why it is so important for Australia to stay the course and continue to stand with Ukraine until they find peace on their terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAustralia was proud to be the first non-NATO contributor to the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, alongside New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur ongoing contribution&nbsp;ensures that Ukraine is receiving the support it needs to make a tangible difference in its defence against Russia\u2019s unjustified and unprovoked aggression\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Albanese Government will provide an additional $100 million in assistance to Ukraine for critical military equipment, as the country continues its fight against Russia\u2019s&nbsp;unjustified and unprovoked&nbsp;invasion.&nbsp;
