critical\u202fmanufacturing capability at Liberty Bell Bay\u202fduring its administration process.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EY have formally accepted both Governments\u202foffer to jointly\u202fprovide\u202fa $3 million loan,\u202fon a 50:50 basis, to support workers while administrator EY continues to\u202fconduct\u202fan expedited sale\u202fof\u202fthe facility.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This support\u202fis about providing workers with more\u202fcertainty in what has been\u202fa\u202fvery\u202fdifficult\u202ftime\u202ffor the community.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will keep\u202fthe workforce in place,\u202fprotecting\u202fjobs and specialist skills,\u202fas well as giving\u202fthe facility\u202fthe best chance of\u202fa\u202fsuccessful sale and faster restart under a new owner.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Liberty Bell Bay\u202fis\u202fAustralia\u2019s\u202fonly domestic producer of manganese alloy, a critical input into steelmaking for defence,\u202fconstruction\u202fand mining.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This support follows the Tasmanian Government providing a $20 million loan to purchase ore after commitments from GFG, the smelter\u2019s owner, it would restart operations at Liberty. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the commitment from GFG, Liberty remained in limited operations until the administration process began.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commonwealth and Tasmanian Governments will continue to work closely to support workers, safeguard Australia\u2019s industrial resilience, and secure the best possible outcome for the facility and the Bell Bay community.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re backing the workers, their families and the community through this sale process because this facility and these jobs matter. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI thank the State Government and all local MPs for working with us to support Australian manufacturing. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need to build more things here as a country \u2013 and that includes in Northen Tasmania.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jeremy Rockliff, Premier of Tasmania\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are in the corner of workers, their families and impacted small businesses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLiberty is the only manganese smelter in the country, and we have invested to support the workers and keep this sovereign capability in Northern Tasmania.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur Government established the Bell Bay Response Team and we provided a $20 million loan for ore to restart operations at Liberty.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have been in regular communication with the Federal Government and worked with them to deliver this employee support package. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTasmanian manufacturing jobs are critical to our community, our State and our Nation. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRecognising that there is still more to do, I want to thank everyone from all sections of the community for rallying around the workers to save Liberty Bell Bay. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStrong cooperation between State, Federal and Local Government has been really important to date and I want to thank our Liberal Members for Bass, Bridget Archer, Rob Fairs and Michael Ferguson, and local members for Windermere, Nick Duigan, and Rosevears, Jo Palmer, for their very strong advocacy and focus on the wellbeing and jobs of the local workers.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tim Ayres, Minister for Industry and Innovation
