on missing links for Sydney\u2019s longest walk"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sydney is a step closer to being\u202fthe best walking city\u202fin the world, with\u202fnew\u202ffunding allocated for\u202fmissing links of\u202fthe\u202f 91km\u202fParramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link, and the\u202fstart of consultation on a\u202fNSW Walking\u202fStrategy. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 91km long\u202froute\u202fwill connect Parramatta Park to the Opera House and Botanical Gardens.\u202f68km of the walk is already accessible\u202fvia shared pathways,\u202fwhile\u202f23\u202fkm of missing links require planning and construction. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minns Labor Government is\u202finvesting\u202f$4.5 million\u202fto\u202fcomplete\u202ffour missing links\u202fin\u202fthe Canada Bay local government area: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New and upgraded shared paths, lighting, and raised crossings connecting\u202fAllison Park, Campbell\u202fPark\u202fand Lysaght Park\u202fin Chiswick.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upgraded path,\u202flighting\u202fand a new raised crossing at Wire Mill Reserve in Chiswick.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New shared pathways\u202fand lighting at Shadrack Shaw Reserve, Concord\u202fwill\u202fimprove the link\u202fbetween Majors Bay Reserve and the Mortlake and Breakfast Point peninsulas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved access to the Bay Run with one raised shared crossing with upgraded street lighting at Timbrell Drive and two extra raised pedestrian crossings and street lighting on Henley Marine Drive near Millar Street and Nield Park. \u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The 3.5 metre wide shared pathways will be\u202fdelivered by the City of\u202fCanada Bay Council\u202fwho\u202fwill deliver the projects, with a construction tender\u202fto be released in the coming months. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$2.36\u202fmillion\u202fof work\u202fon missing links in the\u202fCity of\u202fParramatta\u202fhas\u202falready commenced, with\u202fimproved lighting and a\u202fraised pedestrian and cyclist crossing on Brodie Street\u202fin\u202fRydalmere\u202fand construction\u202fnearing completion for a new shared pathway\u202falong\u202fGeorge Street East\u202fin\u202fParramatta, through Queens Wharf.\u202fThe Bennelong Parkway Bridge and Connecting Paths will start construction in mid-2026. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>$8.23 million has been invested in planning and design along the foreshore which has informed current projects and future stages of foreshore upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u202fParramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link\u202fwill build on an increasing number of dedicated walks throughout Sydney including the\u202f80km\u202fBondi to Manly walk that was opened in 2019 and\u202fthe\u202frecent opening of the\u202f6km\u202fGreenWay which connects the Cooks River Trail, Earlwood with the Bay Run in Haberfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To\u202fimprove the way government\u202fand\u202fcouncils plan, fund and design public spaces\u202fto encourage walking,\u202fthe Minns Labor Government is\u202freleasing the\u202fWalkable NSW Issues Paper, launching a consultation that will inform the development of NSW\u2019s first\u202fever\u202fWalking Strategy. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further updates on the Parramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link will be shared soon, as Transport for NSW continues to work closely with\u202flocal\u202fcouncils, to inform the design and delivery of the next priority connections. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a Discussion Paper<\/a>. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br><strong>Minister for Transport John Graham said: &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe success of the GreenWay and the Bondi to Manly walks, gives you a sense of\u202fwhat\u2019s possible given our incredible\u202fgeography\u202fand exercise culture. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWalking\u202fis the most popular form of transport in NSW, so it makes sense that we take a strategic approach to maximise our potential as a walking\u202fcity. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe walking strategy will help state government and local councils do a better job of planning, funding and designing\u202four streets and places\u202fin a way that encourages walking.\u202fWe\u2019re starting by asking the community what\u2019s most important.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said: &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis\u202f91km\u202fconnection will link a number of Sydney\u2019s world class public spaces and encourage more people to get active and explore parts of the city on foot. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe new connections across the Inner West will complement plans for a new swim spot along the Bay Run and add to the work we\u2019re already doing at Blackwattle Bay to complete the missing link in the 15-kilometre foreshore walk from Rozelle Bay to Woolloomooloo.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Dr Marjorie O\u2019Neill said: &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhether its locals getting some exercise or international tourists in awe of our city, we have some of the most stunning urban walks in the world, we just need to connect them better. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese vital links in Canada Bay are crucial to the ongoing work of connecting this incredible walk. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u202fthank the\u202fCanada Bay Council\u202ffor their work in\u202fdelivering\u202fthese projects\u202fto\u202fconnect the existing walking paths\u202falong their part of the foreshore walk.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mayor of the City of Canada Bay Michael Megna said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are looking forward to delivering the first new connections of the 91km Parramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link following close consultation with our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis project will bring to life our commitment to a fully-connected, accessible foreshore, as well as open up more opportunities for active transport across the
