{"id":38403,"date":"2026-04-14T17:03:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T07:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=38403"},"modified":"2026-04-14T17:03:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T07:03:09","slug":"digital-skills-boost-through-meadowbank-tafe-centre-of-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/04\/14\/digital-skills-boost-through-meadowbank-tafe-centre-of-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital skills boost through Meadowbank TAFE Centre of Excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>More than 50,000&nbsp;Australians&nbsp;each year&nbsp;will&nbsp;gain&nbsp;the benefits of industry-led digital training with a new&nbsp;TAFE&nbsp;Centre of Excellence&nbsp;opening&nbsp;at&nbsp;the&nbsp;Institute of Applied Technology&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;Digital&nbsp;at TAFE NSW Meadowbank.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a joint initiative,&nbsp;the&nbsp;Albanese and Minns Labor&nbsp;Governments&nbsp;are investing $11 million into&nbsp;the&nbsp;Centre&nbsp;to&nbsp;strengthen&nbsp;Australia\u2019s digital and technology&nbsp;capability, providing&nbsp;practical digital skills training&nbsp;to students&nbsp;shaped by industry needs and helping employers access a pipeline of digitally skilled workers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building on&nbsp;the success of TAFE NSW\u2019s Institute of Applied Technology&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;Digital pilot, the&nbsp;Centre will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>upskill and reskill students and workers in\u202fcybersecurity, AI, big data, cloud computing, and software;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>expand the skills pipeline by\u00a0supporting\u00a0priority\u00a0cohorts\u00a0including women,\u00a0culturally and linguistically diverse\u00a0learners\u00a0and\u00a0First Nations students;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>offer flexible delivery including\u00a0on-site\u202fand\u00a0online\u00a0training\u00a0to support\u00a0regional and remote cohorts\u00a0across the state and the country;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>work with industry,\u00a0universities\u00a0and\u00a0small and medium-sized businesses to\u00a0deliver applied research and practical solutions to\u00a0real world\u00a0digital\u00a0workforce\u00a0challenges; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>deliver\u202fmicroskills,\u202fmicrocredentials, vendor certifications, and accredited qualifications\u202facross the digital skills domain.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This investment is part of the&nbsp;Albanese&nbsp;Government\u2019s $325 million in funding to&nbsp;establish&nbsp;a&nbsp;national&nbsp;network of up to 20 TAFE&nbsp;Centres&nbsp;of&nbsp;Excellence&nbsp;under the National Skills Agreement&nbsp;with states and territories.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This&nbsp;builds on&nbsp;the&nbsp;Minns Labor Government\u2019s&nbsp;record $3.4 billion investment in TAFE and skills, ensuring the state\u2019s training system continues to deliver modern, industry-aligned training in&nbsp;critical skills areas.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More information on&nbsp;TAFE Centres of Excellence&nbsp;is available on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dewr.gov.au\/national-skills-agreement\/tafe-centres-excellence\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Employment and Workplace Relations website.<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Federal\u00a0Minister for Skills and Training, Andrew Giles:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTAFE Centres of Excellence are designed to&nbsp;ensure Australians can get the skills they need for good secure work into the future.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAustralia\u2019s vocational education and training&nbsp;system must remain agile and&nbsp;keep pace with&nbsp;technological change and evolving job roles&nbsp;\u2013 work that our&nbsp;Government&nbsp;is doing with industry, training&nbsp;providers&nbsp;and others in the sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy working closely with the&nbsp;Minns&nbsp;Government&nbsp;in backing this project, our new TAFE Centre of Excellence here at Meadowbank will strengthen Australia\u2019s digital capability&nbsp;and&nbsp;boost&nbsp;pathways into skilled digital jobs.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NSW Minister for Skills,\u00a0TAFE and Tertiary Education, Steve Whan:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis investment reinforces the role of TAFE NSW as a leader in delivering innovative, industry-focused training, in high-demand skills areas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Institute of Applied Technology Digital &#8211; National Centre of Excellence builds on a proven skills delivery model, providing opportunities for students and workers to gain the digital skills that work for communities and industries.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy working closely with industry and university partners, we are ensuring training keeps pace with technological change delivering job-ready graduates.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Member for Bennelong, Jerome\u00a0Laxale:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s&nbsp;an exciting day for our local community.
