{"id":38218,"date":"2026-04-01T10:34:33","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T23:34:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=38218"},"modified":"2026-04-01T10:34:33","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T23:34:33","slug":"shoring-up-shellharbour-breakwall-funding-secured-for-critical-repairs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/04\/01\/shoring-up-shellharbour-breakwall-funding-secured-for-critical-repairs\/","title":{"rendered":"Shoring up Shellharbour Breakwall: Funding secured for critical repairs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Shellharbour&nbsp;Breakwall&nbsp;will soon see its first major repair works in over a decade, following a $4 million investment by the Minns Labor Government.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The works will ensure the Shellharbour Breakwater can be safely enjoyed by the community again, while preserving an important local heritage landmark for future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The repair work will take place following a heritage design to ensure the integrity and character of the structure is retained while also incorporating safety upgrades, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Repairing the deteriorated concrete crest<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installing breakwater edge protection where drops exceed 1 metre<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improving pedestrian access by widening pathways<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assessing and mitigating risks associated with the rock shelf below sections of the breakwater<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Detailed design and planning works will now commence, with construction expected to begin in mid-to-late 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister for Regional Transport, Jenny Aitchison said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Shellharbour Breakwall is a much-loved local landmark, and we\u2019re making sure it can be safely reopened for the community to enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe reality is that this much-loved community asset should never have gotten to this state of disrepair. The current state of the Shellharbour Breakwall is a clear result of the former Government\u2019s decade of neglect on regional communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Minns Labor Government has taken a different approach.
