{"id":38209,"date":"2026-03-31T10:45:19","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T23:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=38209"},"modified":"2026-03-31T10:45:19","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T23:45:19","slug":"public-sector-union-opens-new-newcastle-office-building-on-more-than-100-years-of-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/03\/31\/public-sector-union-opens-new-newcastle-office-building-on-more-than-100-years-of-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Sector Union opens new Newcastle office, building on more than 100 years of history"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Public Service Association and Community and Public Sector Union (NSW Branch) will tonight officially open its new Newcastle office, strengthening its presence in the Hunter while building on a proud history in the region dating back to October 1899.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Located at&nbsp;24 Maitland Road, Islington, the new office represents a significant investment in supporting public sector workers across Newcastle and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opening event, running&nbsp;from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, will bring together a diverse group of attendees including PSA &amp; CPSU NSW members and staff from Newcastle and Sydney, local councillors, delegates, and Members of Parliament.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 60 and 80 people are expected to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among those attending are Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp, Member for Wallsend Sonia Hornery, Member for Charlestown Jodie Harrison, and representatives of Federal Member for Paterson Pat Conroy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PSA President Nicole Jess said the new office reflects the union\u2019s ongoing commitment to regional members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNewcastle has a deep and proud connection to the PSA stretching back more than 125 years,\u201d Ms Jess said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis new office strengthens our ability to support members locally, ensuring they have access to representation, advice and advocacy close to where they live and work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PSA General Secretary Stewart Little said the investment would help grow union strength across the Hunter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis office is about being present, accessible and responsive to our members in the region,\u201d Mr Little said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur members deliver vital public services every day.
