{"id":3770,"date":"2019-09-30T17:24:23","date_gmt":"2019-09-30T17:24:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=3770"},"modified":"2019-09-30T17:24:23","modified_gmt":"2019-09-30T17:24:23","slug":"government-pilot-to-boost-small-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/09\/30\/government-pilot-to-boost-small-business\/","title":{"rendered":"GOVERNMENT PILOT TO BOOST SMALL BUSINESS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new NSW Government pilot program will mean it\u2019s easier for small businesses to win work from their local council \u2013 boosting local economies and communities.<br \/>\nThe Local Procurement pilot program &#8211; part of the NSW Government\u2019s\u00a0<em>Making Business Easier\u00a0<\/em>offering \u2013 aims to increase direct contact between small businesses and councils by cutting red tape and simplifying the tender process.<br \/>\nMinister for Small Business Damien Tudehope said the six month pilot would enable small businesses to operate on a more level playing field when securing contracts with their local council.<br \/>\n\u201cNSW Councils spend significant funds on goods and services each year but many small businesses couldn\u2019t compete with larger competitors for contracts.<br \/>\n\u201cA toolkit has been developed to help small businesses win council contracts, while providing tips to local councils on how they can become more small business friendly.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a great opportunity for local businesses to tender for local government work and boost local economies,\u201d Mr Tudehope said.<br \/>\nIn June, the NSW Government changed the\u00a0<em>Local Government Act 1993<\/em>\u00a0to increase the threshold for tenders from $150,000 to $250,000, which will provide more opportunities for councils to engage businesses directly without a tender process.<br \/>\nMinister for Local Government Shelley Hancock said the Local Procurement pilot was a great example of how state and local governments were working together to help small businesses reach their full potential.<br \/>\n\u201cSeveral councils including Georges River Council, Eurobodalla Shire Council, Campbelltown City Council and Central Coast Council have already expressed interest in the program.<br \/>\n\u201cI encourage all NSW local councils to get involved in this fantastic program and see more of their contracts secured by their local small businesses,\u201d Mrs Hancock said.<br \/>\nFor more information go to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.smallbusiness.nsw.gov.au\/local-procurement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.smallbusiness.nsw.gov.au\/local-procuremen<\/a>t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new NSW Government pilot program will mean it\u2019s easier for small businesses to win work from their local council \u2013 boosting local economies and communities.
