{"id":37569,"date":"2026-02-21T19:11:46","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T08:11:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=37569"},"modified":"2026-02-21T19:11:46","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T08:11:46","slug":"liquor-delivery-restrictions-supported","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/02\/21\/liquor-delivery-restrictions-supported\/","title":{"rendered":"Liquor delivery restrictions supported"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>A Legislative Assembly inquiry that heard from Uber Eats, DoorDash, frontline services and industry bodies has today&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Favdoxm.clicks.mlsend.com%2Ftd%2Fc%2FeyJ2Ijoie1wiYVwiOjExODUyODEsXCJsXCI6MTc5ODg5MTc0NTYxNjg2NTg5LFwiclwiOjE3OTg4OTE4NDcyNjU4MjQ0M30iLCJzIjoiNmQzZmE0ODY3MGYyMzIzOSJ9&amp;data=05%7C02%7C%7Ce436587b6e9f48e2c27808de702a97ab%7Cb46c190803344236b978585ee88e4199%7C0%7C0%7C639071525435088414%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=CXXr%2FDspBCslj7B%2FafKzp7%2B9Sr4HNUEnKGTW87tjoZY%3D&amp;reserved=0\">handed down its recommendations<\/a><\/strong><strong>&nbsp;on a proposed liquor law change in the ACT.<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greens Leader and spokesperson on health&nbsp;Shane Rattenbury MLA was a member of the inquiry committee and says stories from victim survivors of alcohol-related violence were particularly powerful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cConvenience shouldn\u2019t come at a cost to people\u2019s health and safety,\u201d Mr Rattenbury said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the key recommendations of the committee was that protecting people from alcohol-related harm should be the most important aim of the ACT\u2019s liquor legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The committee has made further recommendations, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Same-day delivery of alcohol should be limited to between 10am and 10pm (based on evidence from NSW that when deliveries were extended from 10pm to 11pm, there was a statistical increase in rates of family, domestic and sexual violence reported to police)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There should be a two-hour pause between online order and delivery of alcohol<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Same-day delivery providers should allow customers to opt out of marketing and advertising of alcohol.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDuring the inquiry we heard that alcohol is estimated to be involved in 23 to 65 percent of all family violence reported to police,\u201d Mr Rattenbury said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAdvocacy body FARE cited evidence that there was one person dying every 90 minutes and one person being hospitalised every three minutes because of alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince alcohol is such a key contributor to domestic and family violence, adopting these evidence-based recommendations around same-day delivery of alcohol will be an important way of reducing these harms for people in the ACT.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Legislative Assembly inquiry that heard from Uber Eats, DoorDash, frontline services and industry bodies has today&nbsp;handed down its recommendations&nbsp;on a proposed liquor law change in the ACT.&nbsp;
