Light Rail Stage 2 tracking to main construction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Minns Labor Government has given the green light to\u202fbegin\u202fconstruction\u202fof the main works\u202fon the second stage of Parramatta Light Rail, a project&nbsp;which&nbsp;will eventually connect\u202fSydney\u2019s second CBD with Sydney Olympic Park.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fulfilling a Labor election commitment,\u202fconstruction\u202fwill\u202fbegin&nbsp;in early&nbsp;2027\u202fon the\u202fnew 10-kilometre\u202froute that will\u202flink\u202fCamellia, Rydalmere, Ermington, Melrose Park,\u202fWentworth&nbsp;Point\u202fand Olympic Park over 14 light rail stops.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project runs through one of the fastest-growing\u202fareas of Sydney and will\u202fprovide the transport infrastructure to support\u202fnew housing\u202fgoing in, particularly\u202faround Wentworth Point\u202fwhich has developed without\u202fsufficient public transport links.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former Liberal government promised\u202fmore than a dozen times\u202fto\u202fproceed\u202fwith Parramatta Light Rail\u202fStage 2 but never managed to get a single shovel into\u202fthe ground.\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;the coming weeks, the NSW Government\u202fwill\u202fbegin procurement\u202ffor the\u202fnext\u202fphase of construction works \u2013 known as Stage 2a -\u202ffrom Camellia to Wentworth Point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This phase of new work is expected to create more than 2000 construction and other jobs in Western Sydney.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Main Works\u202fwill\u202fdeliver:\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>4.5kms of track\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a\u202fnew\u202fbridge linking Camellia and Rydalmere\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>nine new stops\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an expanded Stabling and Maintenance Facility\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>additional\u202flight rail vehicles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With funding\u202fto date\u202fof\u202f$3 billion,\u202fStage 2\u202fwill link to the existing Parramatta Light Rail system\u202fwhich&nbsp;carries\u202fup&nbsp;to\u202f90,000&nbsp;passengers\u202fa week.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with\u202fthe procurement of the&nbsp;Main Works contract,\u202fthe project will now focus on\u202fearly works,\u202fsite investigations, detailed utility designs,\u202fand commencement of property acquisitions.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Major\u202fconstruction is already underway on\u202fthe first phase\u202f\u2013\u202fthe\u202fenabling works for\u202fStage 2,\u202fwhich includes\u202fthe construction of\u202fpiles that\u202fwill hold\u202fthe first new\u202fpublic\u202fand active\u202ftransport\u202fbridge crossing of\u202fthe Parramatta River in\u202fmore than three and a half decades.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since\u202f2023, the Minns Labor Government has accelerated planning and\u202ffinalised\u202fthe business case for Stage 2, which has already secured\u202fFederal Environmental and NSW Planning for\u202fconstruction works to\u202fbegin\u202fvia the\u202fmain works\u202fcontract,\u202fwhich will shortly go out to tender.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLinking Parramatta to Sydney Olympic Park\u202fwill\u202fprovide\u202fa\u202fmuch-needed\u202fpublic\u202ftransport link that was\u202fso often promised under the former Liberal government but never delivered,\u202fdespite\u202fthe\u202frapid population and housing growth\u202fthat has\u202fmade this part of Sydney such a fast-growing\u202farea.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Minns Labor Government\u202fis\u202ffocused on delivery\u202fof transport infrastructure that keeps up with the housing development Sydney needs\u202fand gives people \u2013 particularly those who have moved into Western Sydney \u2013 a viable alternative to sitting in a car in traffic.\u201d\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Member for Parramatta Donna Davis said:<\/strong>\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGiving the green light to begin construction of Stage 2a Main Works will boost Western Sydney\u2019s economy and support the new housing hubs at Melrose Park, Wentworth Point, Sydney Olympic Park and the Carter Street precinct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cExpanding the system to Sydney Olympic Park will be another\u202fgame-changer\u202ffor jobs,
