{"id":36603,"date":"2025-12-15T18:01:33","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T07:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=36603"},"modified":"2025-12-15T18:01:33","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T07:01:33","slug":"china-delegation-led-by-minister-chanthivong-delivers-trade-and-investment-wins-to-nsw-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/12\/15\/china-delegation-led-by-minister-chanthivong-delivers-trade-and-investment-wins-to-nsw-businesses\/","title":{"rendered":"China delegation led by Minister Chanthivong delivers trade and investment wins to NSW businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>More than $330 million in commercial agreements between NSW businesses and businesses from Guangdong Province were secured last week during the 30th NSW\u2013Guangdong Joint Economic Meeting (JEM) in Guangzhou, strengthening NSW\u2019s economic ties with China\u2019s largest provincial economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Led by NSW Minister for Industry and Trade Anoulack Chanthivong, the trade mission focused on Health and Life Sciences, Trade, including food and beverage manufacturing and Net Zero and the Energy Transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leading these outcomes was the announcement of a research collaboration between the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Genesis Australia, aimed at driving innovation in sustainable agriculture through the development of microalgae-based organic fertilizers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSW based global hearing solutions leader Cochlear also secured a substantial long-term export pipeline into the Greater Bay Area, showcasing its latest cochlear implant technologies and reinforcing NSW\u2019s reputation for advanced medical ingenuity. This is a direct result of the 2023 JEM, held in Sydney, which led to a nation-first agreement for Cochlear to supply medical devices across Guangdong\u2019s Greater Bay Area hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other key outcomes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Memorandum of Understanding between Guangdong\u2019s National New Energy Storage Innovation Center and Australia\u2019s Smart Energy Council, paving the way for collaboration\u00a0on battery technology R&amp;D, industrial supply chain integration and market opportunity exploration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highstar Sodium Battery secured a $130 million supply contract with Highflow Energy to deliver 1GWh of sodium-ion products into the Australian market over three years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Probev International established a $10 million long-term partnership with AusTiger to leverage its domestic sports event platform to introduce more high-quality Australian sports nutrition products to the sports community in Guangdong.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MingMed Biotechnology partnered with Emerald Clinical Trials on a Phase II clinical trial valued at over $4 million.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dartsbio and Tigermed Australia signed a multi-million agreement to conduct early-stage clinical trials in NSW.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Launch of the Greater Bay Area\u2013NSW Innovation Channel to accelerate technology commercialisation and expand two-way flows of capital, talent, and research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission included strategic bilateral and sector-specific meetings, as well as engagements in Hong Kong and Shanghai, expanding opportunities for NSW businesses across Greater China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also contributed to the bold vision to grow exports by $100 billion, attract $25 billion in investment, and create 30,000 new jobs by 2035 set out in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsw.gov.au\/departments-and-agencies\/investment-nsw\/resources\/nsw-trade-and-investment-strategy\"><em>NSW Trade and Investment Strategy<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister for Industry and Trade Anoulack Chanthivong said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis mission has delivered on the objectives of the&nbsp;<em>NSW Trade and Investment Strategy 2035<\/em>&nbsp;to create jobs, attract investment, and diversify our trade base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dNSW is a trading state and China is a major trading partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe outcomes achieved in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong demonstrate the strength of our long-standing sister-state relationship with Guangdong and the opportunities that flow from collaboration in net zero, health, technology and agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom clean energy innovation, to clinical trials and sustainable farming, these partnerships will deliver tangible benefits for NSW businesses and communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pat Casey, Strategic Sourcing Director, Blackmores:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Joint Economic Meeting has provided Blackmores with a unique platform to deepen our collaboration with Sirio Pharma and represents a significant step forward in combining Blackmores\u2019 R&amp;D innovation with Sirio\u2019s world\u2011class supply chain capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis partnership strengthens our ability to innovate, expand our product portfolio, and meet growing demand in Asia\u2019s largest health market.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Frances Cui, Chief Representative, Greater China, Genesis:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe NSW\u2013Guangdong Joint Economic Meeting\u2014and our 46\u2011year sister\u2011state agreement\u2014give partners like us the trusted platform to move faster from lab to paddock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThrough our collaboration with the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, we\u2019ll scale microalgae\u2011based organic fertilisers to strengthen sustainable agriculture across NSW and the Greater Bay Area.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Barry Irvin, Executive Chairman, Bega Group:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe JEM is an invaluable platform for food and beverage businesses like ours.
